i am blessed. i have been getting TONS of acne suddenly ever since high school started for some reason. what are some effective treatments you guys are using?

Are your bangs long? The oil from your hair may be clogging your pores. Also, do you wash your face every night? I swim a lot so I think the chlorine does it for me, but otherwise I'd say that a Neutrogena facewash might do the trick. Along with some unscented face lotion afterwards.

For serious acne, I would recommend seeing a dermatologist.

Agreed on the dermatologist thing...they can often prescribe stuff that can clear it up faster than any OTC treatment.

Birth control really can help that too. I have a few friends who had bad acne and that really did help clear up their skin.

That is, if you are a girl? Haha if not sorry! But yeah see a dermatologist or a doctor, that would be good if it's really that bad. And as far as just normal face washing goes, try Dial soap, it really helps.

lol, to everyone that posted, thanks for the tips. im actually a guy though, but thanks. it's not dermatologist level, but its just that ive suddenly been getting tons of acne all of a sudden.

thanks

It's probably from stress. It might just clear up on it's own.

I use hydrogen peroxide and a little bit of neosporin on mine and seems to do a pretty decent job when I actually care enough to deal with this one I always seem to get above my right eyebrow.

hmm after trying every over the counter medicine available, differin, duac, retin a, tazorac, clindagel, doryx and a few other pills i got accutane. thats how you get rid of acne...

racinreaver!!!! 1000th post!!!!!!

does drinking lots of water work? i drink as much as i can, and i wash my face once in the morning and once before bed. will i be clear?

that may or may not help. everybody is different and responds differently to different treatments. i drank a minimum of a gallon a day and nothing worked until accutane. for most people, a nice wash twice a day keeps the pimples away.

it might but i don't really know. i drink TONS of water (TONS) and i don't have acne. but i don't think that's the reason why..... a friend of mine tried proactive and it worked for him.

Submerge your face in a highly concentrated solution of NaOH twice daily.

Technically I guess that would get rid of it. Along with the rest of your face.

See a dermatologist if it's really bad.

I have a good amount of acne and nothing over-the-counter worked; going to a dermatologist seems like the best decision I've made on this subject.

im going to head to the pharmacy in a bit. do you guys think accutane is the best way to go?

I'm in my 20's but I saw this thread and had to post my advice. I have oily skin and always had moderate acne (nothing ever too bad, thank god), even after going to the dermatologist and trying pills in combination w/ Rx facial pad/wipe things, birth control, home remedies, etc. I tried everything to get my face clear for about 5 years. The only thing that worked for me was Proactiv. I know, I sound just like their cheesy commercials, and even I was skeptical and didn't want to try it at first...after every other thing I tried failed I thought "This stuff probably won't work either". But it did, and I haven't had a problem with acne since.

o cool thanks, i will check that out!

are accutane and proactiv over the counter drugs?

proactiv is over the counter, accutane is definitely not. definitely try proactive before even considering accutane though

Accutane is meant to be a last resort, I'm pretty sure. There have been cases of teens committing suicide while on Accutane because one of its side effects is depression.

Just a word of caution. The stuff is intense and you might want to exhaust all options before considering it.

yeah with accutane you have to give blood every month to make sure your not messed up, and it messes with your emotions and it could possibly cause infertility... so use with caution
