Also a tip, if you do use proactiv, use white towels/old towels you don't care about to wipe your hands and face with after use. It contains a small percentage of benzoyl peroxide and will bleach out tiny spots on fabrics.

Ditto proactive. I thought it was BS because of the cheesy infomercials, but it's miracle stuff.

hey, on the proactiv website, it looks like they have a gajillion things to sell. is this wat im looking for?
Skin Care Products | Proactiv® Solution

anyone know what to buy?

thanks

skip the pro activ, itll work for about 4 or 5 months and then your body will get used to it and you'll have worse acne than before.

Just go straight to the dermatologist and tell him to prescribe you medicine. It works PERFECTLY.

Believe me, you'll thank me for telling you to skip the over the counter. You're going to end up getting prescription anyway if you want all of your acne gone...

really???????

but accutane has a lot of negative sides(see above posts).

I don't know if it's true or not, but I heard that Proactiv actually makes your acne worse if you stop using it after you start. In order to get you to keep needing it, they have designed it to clear up your acne initially, but over time, if you stop using it, your acne will get really bad.

Don't know if this is just an urban legend.

that's not the only medicine a dermatologist can prescribe

I have seen a lot of commercials about skin id ... but I am not sure if it works... check it out: Acne Treatment Solutions – Neutrogena skin iD

Oi, y0itzr0, I would recommend you to post your question on the parental board. Perhaps there are some moms/dads there who are dermatologists and could give you some tips. My mom is a chemist and I know she lurks here somewhere.

does drinking lots of water work? i drink as much as i can, and i wash my face once in the morning and once before bed. will i be clear?

I think that would just make you pee a lot. But you should always drink lots of water, no matter what. It'll keep you hydrated, which will prevent your skin from being dry (which usually comes hand in hand with acne). Plus, drinking water flushes out toxins from your body, which is always good for your health. I'm not sure if this applies to chocolate, but eating a lot of bread (starches) can cause acne. This doesn't mean that you should avoid bread, but just keep in mind that eating healthy will always do you good.

Yeah accutane can really screw some people up.

I have some acne. Mostly on my back a little and on my forehead. The bacne is pretty much under control now and I think my forehead acne is from my bangs which sucks.

Anyway, my dermatologist prescribed me doxycycline 50mg. which is an antibiotic and there are many different types (e.g. tetracycline. . . ) so talk about that too.

I highly recommend hydrochloric acid. Not only will it remove your acne, it will also remove the skin on your face so that you will not have to worry about acne in the future.

My girlfriend used Proactiv for a bit, and found it actually made her worse, so she stopped using it. Then it cleared up a bit better. She still has a bit on her forehead, but her cheeks are almost completely clear. Also, she used to have a little bit of backne, but she got her hair cut so that it's about shoulder length and it went a long way to clearing that up.
