My son took the ACT yesterday and will submit these scores to the schools that he would like to go to. He is planning on applying Early Action November 1. Will they consider these newest scores ? Do we notify the school ? He thinks he really did well and will make a difference for scholarships, etc.
I’m 99% most EA schools only take the September ACT at the latest. Check in with the school’s testing deadlines for EA, but chances are, that sitting won’t even count.
They said deadline for ACT for UVA was Oct. I am so hoping that’s right.
@Beckham2009 God, UVA’s website is the least userfriendly public school database I’ve ever had to interact with.
On that note, I couldn’t see a solid testing deadline for EA, it just says that all scores should be received by Nov. 1. However, they said that if you take a test after the deadline (i.e. Nov subject tests), just add UVA as a score recipient IMMEDIATELY. I’d say you go onto the ACT website right now and see if you can send your son’s scores (as soon as they come out) to UVA immediately. Just click “send scores”, even if his score is not there. I think they will accept the October ACT, but just send everything else in case.
Yeah. I sent his scores from yesterday. A friend said that if we notify them that they are on their way that that would work. Yes. everything else is sent. So nerve wracking.

Important to contact the specific school(s) you hope will review the October ACT for Early Action. An article was posted in the Chronicle of Higher Ed on Thursday revealing that the ACT has started informing colleges the writing section has a new grading system and it is taking longer to evaluate than anticipated. Case in point, the September 18 ACT exam still has 20% of its scores not yet sent to colleges due to the writing section delay.
Given this information, our office has already issued a statement saying that while we will do everything we can to include the October scores in our Early Action evaluation (Nov 1 deadline), it is unlikely they will arrive in time for consideration.

You need to check with each school. If the school said they would accept October score, you need to make use of the free score report or preorder the report that it would be delivered as soon as possible. They would accept it only if arrive within the grace period. For some school, they may use October score for evaluation if the application is completed by deadline and the new score arrive before review.
