ACT April 4 ---- main discussion

Idk some ppl apparently think it was radiation too

was the question asking about how the heat was transfered from one end to the other or just simply the temperature change at one spot?

I said conduction only...

but one decreases as R increases... answer is length right?

I think heat transferred from one end to another. I don't think it could be radiation because it's happening within the bar, you can't radiate to yourself, you radiate outwards.

um, is it very important if you messed up the date. i put it as the 5th all three times
when signing the document.

In physics, radiation describes any process in which energy emitted by one body travels through a medium or through space, ultimately to be absorbed by another body.

idk... it seems wrong, but the definition sounds like it works.

Heat conduction is the transfer of thermal energy between neighboring molecules in a substance due to a temperature gradient. It always takes place from a region of higher temperature to a region of lower temperature, and acts to equalize temperature differences.

actually, I'm pretty sure it's conduction, because it was moving from a hot end to a cold end. I bet that's what made a difference.

if it is saying through the bar (end to end) it is conduction

convection and radiation would only work if the two areas are not touching and the heat transfers from one medium (the bar) to another (air) back to another medium (another bar)

Someone said the answer was was the combo answer. Radiation and something else. I don't think that the 3 are common knowledge. The ACT doesn't test common knowledge.

I think they were unfair. Except the Saturn one. (someone said the context clue "bigger" was used). If I would of missed either of these, I would contact ACT)

actually, I just looked at the website and it said basic knowledge from intro classes are usually required

i filled everything, i made sure of that. english i finished without a problem, math was ok but the last 10 or 15 i didnt get to so i just plugged what in what looked good, reading i didnt read the passages (i skimmed) but i still found all the ansewrs, science was a pain in my you know what i couldn't put all the figures in my mind to completely understand what the questions were asking i had to guess after 3/4's of the way in, and the essay was simple.

well even if you didn't know the exact answer for this question,,,if you looked at the three choices,,,you would know right away that conduction for sure must be one of the answers (common sense), then whaat i did was look at the answer choices and i noticed that there was only one answer with what i thought was the answer....so I ended up choosing C. Conduction as my final answer :)

were the facts about bats erroneous?

was the answer SATURN?

david: i said saturn too
deepski: i said the bats were erroneous

i dont remember the bat question but that other on was saturn

i erased some answers, how light should i have erased my answers? they were light gray but it freaked me out that i couldn't erase until it was completely white

For the bats questions where it asked something like "What was the point of the last sentence in the first paragraph?" (which basically listed some misconceptions about bats), was it to summarize earlier points or compare bats to other creatures?

Also, is merchandise singular or plural?

i choice the answer choice below that zenthz lol,,but u might be right

chose* .....lol
