I got a 26 on my first ACT with a 23 English. For the past 2 weeks I've been doing practice tests, 2 a week. However my English score is only in the range of 27-29. Any suggestions?

I want a 30-32. Is it possible in a week. Retaking my ACT in exactly one week. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

I can’t answer anything for sure, but I got a 36 on English and can give you my advice. :)

I used this guide: https://actonlineprep.act.org/ePrep/browserInfo.do
It has all the subjects, but was helpful for me. It’s relatively short and I believe costs about $25.

I also read all the time, which has a great correlation with excellent English scores, but if you have a week, that won’t do you any good.

My suggestion is to try and find out which grammatical ideas are giving you the most trouble (sentence structure, rhetorical skills, etc.), and focus on those. By “focus” I mean not just practice problems, but take some time to actually understand and be able to apply each concept.

When you get to the test, just stay focused, trust your instinct and prep and don’t overthink the questions.

Honestly, a 23 to a 30+ is a large jump, and I wouldn’t count on finding a miracle score booster this week. It’s definitely possible though, just do your best!

I wish you the absolute best of luck! :)

Thank you! I will try that. On my last 4 practice test I got a 27, 28, 29 and 29.

I read the Erica Metzler SAT Ultimate Grammar guide the day before the test. I went through the whole book. While it is meant for the SAT it is also a great help on the ACT. I went from a 25 in English to a 32.

@ooohcollege From a 25? WOW that’s a huge jump. I would definitely read that thanks!

Ya I took my first ACT like in May or March (whichever month has the ACT) and the took it again in June. I only studied that one day in between those tests with the book. Just knowing all of the grammar rules made it very easy to spot mistakes on the test.

@ooohcollege wow! That’s amazing! Congrats! Hopefully it works for me too
