ACT for UC schools

Do UC schools evaluate ACT composite score most importantly or do they evaluate English and Math subscores more importantly? Here are my scores:

31C: 32E, 30M, 36R, 27S
30C: 33E, 34M, 26R, 28S
(Yes, my Reading scores are very scatted!)

Some schools like Cal Poly SLB only looks at English and Math subscores, so I was just wondering if ACT with 30C would look better since its English and Math subscores are higher than ones with 31C ACT score. Can someone tell me?

Another question is: do UC’s accept ACT score without a writing section, if I send other ACT score with a writing, along with it? I saw there is only one ACT score to list on UC application.

Thanks for your help!

UC’s will look at the composite score and take the highest score from a single sitting.

UC’s require the ACT with writing or SAT with writing. You can send all your ACT scores, but if you only have one ACT score with writing, that is the score they will use regardless of what you received on the ACT tests without writing.

You self-report your highest ACT score with writing for the UC application but you need to send all official test scores to the UC’s.
