Hi guys! I take my ACT this Saturday & I was wondering is it hard?? Because I've prepared myself for it for a while now & I know what to expect, but I'm just a little nervous.

I think the ACT is easier. I don't know what it is about it that makes me feel like it is easier than the SAT. No tips, other than do your best. Sorry! :-D

I found the ACT easier, as well, though I guess my ACT & SAT scores are pretty equivalent (ACT being ever so slightly higher).

I haven't any real tips, sorry. Just manage your time well, and try not to get too stressed out. And wear comfortable clothes. And don't sit in a creaky desk if you can help it!

A small word of advice to add on to poubelle - manage your time because a few people I've spoken with have found that they were short on time, especially for the science section. I barely made it when I took the December ACT.

What is the relation of the Barron's practice tests to the real thing?

What was your total composite score & score on the science section?
I think the science section will be my biggest challenge.

I don't find the ACT to be hard questions wise. It's just that the short amount of time makes it harder then it should.

I'm probably retaking it in June, so If I can just get a 29-30 I'll be happy. That's what I've been getting on practice tests anyways.

The ACT is easier than the SAT, because it contains less tricks to mess you up; although, time constraints could mess you up.

The ACT isn't that difficult, but just like any standardized test, the way of grading is what hurts.

poubelle, did you send both your ACT and SAT scores to colleges?

I think the ACT english is easier because you don't need to know vocab. But I think the ACT math is harder because it has trig. and harder questions in general, in my opinion. If you know the trig. functions you should be fine, it isn't that bad. My one tip also would be to pace yourself on english and math, and then know you have to go really fast through reading and science. I took it in February and got caught up on the science section. I finished but I felt rushed and it turned out to be my lowest score. Good luck!

ACT is a good test if you're good in school. The questions are similar to high school tests, at least more so than the SAT. My scores on the SAT and ACT were about equal. The key to the ACT is to try to work as fast as you can. Always remember that if time is about to run out then put in random answers. Barrons is always harder than the real thing. And this goes with all barrons subjects.

How about Kaplan's Leap Frog Book & Sparknotes?? Are they similar to the real thing??

when you say that ur act and sat scores are equivilent... what does that mean? how do you compare the two?

You compare by percentiles.

ahh i see, thanks. i was looking at the book.. and the percentiles seem crazy. like anywhere from a 32-36 composite score is 99th percentile.

In my opinion, the ACT is a lot harder than the SAT. Just compare the percentiles. A good score on the old SAT, 1350+ is around the 95%ile. However, a good score on the ACT, 30+ is the 97%ile. This means that less people who take the SAT actually score at a 30. Furthermore, there's no time on the ACT. But, this is all my opinion.

well, purely looking at the statistics, percentage wise getting a 36 is much harder than getting a (old sat) 1600

yea, because I'm pretty sure to get a 36 on the ACT you can't miss any, while the SAT is curved so you can at least miss one.
