ACT June 2010 - Math

are you sure fresh101?
Do you remember if that was question # 44

Yeah, I thought the math was pretty decent. The first 40/44 questions were easy but the last 16 were kind of difficult (spent too much time on the cylinder one). I hope I still got over a 28, though.

so how to do that 14000 one…with the graph…

i don’t understand the question…it says the largest profit?

The answer to the rhombus problem is 4 and I’ll show you with a diagram:

http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/267/rhombusproblem.png

The radius, as demonstrated by BC, is 4 as given by the problem. You can see that AD, a side length of the rhombus, is clearly congruent to the radius BC. Both are diagonals of the rectangle ACDB.

What were the other choices for the 14000 one?

@downfall369

it’s like

A.9000
B.10000
C.12000
D.14000
E.20000

Damn…I wanna say i picked 10k or 12k as a guess…I don’t think I chose 14k :(

i knew 12000,20000 or other choices were wrong…

but i don’t know how to get 14k - -

if possible can soebody possibly post a lot or all of the math answers that you remember in one message?

it is funny how i solved that question with the given radius i noticed that another line intercepted it the very line which was being asked i cut the rectangle in fours and notice that both the opposite sides were the same so chose 4 because the other diagonal was 4

@SoccerRyan

I may be mistaken, but I thought point “D” on your diagram was on the circumference on the circle…That is I thought the rhombus touched the circle, not the rectangle? This I’m not too sure about.

@?: I’m sure that the rhombus was inside the rectangle which was inside the circle, making point D not on circle. There actually weren’t any labels on the test, but I’m sure you knew that.

the rhombus touched the midpoints of the rectangle and rectangle was located in the circle

Bleh I I thought it looked like this http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/929/blehb.jpg

I’ll take your word for it, but can anyone else confirm that he’s right? And all 4 midpoints? I don’t remember them saying it touched the midpoints tbh >>

does anyone remember if the awnser to the rhombus question was awners “C”. I know the awnser is 4 but I guessed on Question #44. Was that question the rhombus question? And if it was does anyone remember what the order of the awnsers was I think it was like this:
A) 1
B) 3
C) 4

I know I put “C” but does anyone remember if C was 4?

What about the one that asked how long it would take to inflate the cylinder? 1.3 is what I got.

UVA, I think four of the answer choices were 4, 6, 8, 10.

I think all five were 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 in that order.

Yea but do you remember what # question the rhombus one was? I remember having to guess on question # 44 but I dont know if it was the rhombus question

The choices were 2,3,4,6,8. I guarantee it. So far only one wrong. For the llast one, I used synthetic division to get it down to a quadratic equation, and then I got imaginary answers. My friend graphed it on a calculator and he got only 1 solution at two, so I;m very confident it was 5/4 +/- i sqroot(23)/4, which was choice D I believe.

Rhombus was 50 something I"m pretty sure… I could see it through my CR section so it was second to last page.
