What I did was: 45-33=12 and 45-31=14. 14 plus 12 = 26, so therefore, 45-26=19.

I said it goes down by 1/3.

Good question. I didn’t know any mathematical way of figuring out the equation, so I guessed and checked. When you guess 19, you need to satisfy the left side area of 31, so 31-19-12 (which was area of the left side triangle) You also need to satisfy the right side of the equation, so 33-19=14. I knew I was correct when I noticed that the far right side triangle was slightly larger than the far left triangle. So the areas from left to right were (12,19,14) which all adds up to 45.

and anyone have any thoughts for math curve and what a -4/-5 would be?

@teachmehowto34 where did you get 31 from?

Since you know the whole figure adds up to 45 and the two parts that overlap are 31 and 33. All you do it add 31 and 33 to get 64. Then subtract 64 by 45 to get 19.

Do you remember what the answer choice was for 24? (systems of equation where we were asked to solve for 6x + 2y)

did it say that the two parts that overlap are 33 and 31? If so, I didn’t read carefully. and the answer choice for 24 was J (2nd to last)

I just remembered that I got 3 for x and 3 for y, giving me 24. I’m not sure about the answers, though.

And Co1ton explained it perfectly.

but any thoughts on -4/-5?

Yes, it was split into three figures. The two on the left added up to 33 and the two on the right added up to 31, and you needed to find the area in which they overlapped.

I think a -4/-5 is well-deserving of a 33, if not a 34. The ACT, in my experience, is really starting to push with the difficulty/timing of the math section. I can’t finish it comfortably anymore.

Personally, I think I got -7, so ~31ish?

o_o anyone have form 73F? I’m from Ohio and it seems like everyone else got 73A :(

I thought I got -7/-8 on the last one and got a 30. So @teachmehowto34 you probably have a 30-31

In the September 2013 one, I got a 31, and I (think) I got -8, so idk.

But yeah, 30 sounds about right. S/O to ACT Practice tests for telling me I deserve at least a 34 on math. Pfft.

What points, arguments, and counter-arguments did you guys bring up in the writing section?

The prompt was something like this:
Parents disagree over whether social media networks are positive or negative influences on the younger people of today. Some parents say that they help students develop communication skills that are necessary in order to succeed in today’s technological world. Other parents believe that these sites take time away from students from doing more important thing such as focusing on school or spending time with their families. In your essay, be sure to choose a side (multiple sides, or present a new side) and present examples to back up your opinion.

Wow -8 = 31?! That seems pretty lenient! And wasn’t the Math in September easier than this month’s Math?

Hopefully -10 = 31, this time. That would be amazing. :D

@teachmehowto34 what do you mean they told you that? As in that’s how you did on practice tests?

Also did we ever come to a consensus on the ordering of the largest areas (a1, a2, a3, a4)? I said large weird polygon, then larger triangle, then thin rectangle, then small triangle. What about eveyrone else?

same^…I think
