Hello guys, I’m currently a Junior, with a 3.8 GPA. I was wondering if the ACT is really hard, I haven’t taken Trig at all, or Chemistry so i’m a bit nervous if i encounter those during the test. Also math is not my greatest subject. I always have this dilemma that I won’t make it to Sac State cause of my high school overall GPA average (2.6 w/ freshman year, higher without freshman year).
Don’t worry about chemistry, it’s not necessarily to know chemistry to do well on the ACT. However not knowing trigonometry will be a problem. I think you should teach yourself beat least a little trigonometry if you can.
What’s your target score on the math section?
Thank you for the tip
@DarkEclipse My target score is about 25 or above
Also does the ACT try to trick you in anyway? Or is it simply the most simple logical answer?
@Illionaire No. The ACT is pretty straight forward for the most part. There are a few tricks they throw in the English section but they’re predictable and can be recognized if you’re really familiar with the ACT and have taken lots of practice tests.
@outlooker I just took half of the practice test for the English portion, and it seems that I shouldn’t overthink the question, and that I have to read a bit more to answer the question. Is the SAT as simple as this? Or does it try to trick you.
If I do bad during this ACT due to lack of preparation (Schools didn’t tell us till last week), how much do I have to pay so colleges don’t use the score within california? Any tips can you guys give me to do well?
Do you live in Missouri? Cause that’s the only ACT given on Tuesday in pretty sure
You are not required to send your ACT score. Wait until you get your score back to decide if you want to send it, but it will cost you to send it later. If you are interested in SAC state, the Cal states do not use Freshman grades in their GPA calculation. See link: http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
Average ACT composite score for SAC state last year was 20. Aim for that score or higher.
Relax and do your best. You can always study during the summer and retake in the Fall.
@jumpingstar California. My school pulled a quick one on us. Told us last week that we were taking it tomororw.
If you’re aiming for a 25; you can pretty much skip Trigonometry.
Well quick update. I couldn’t finish the multiple choice questions, had about a column left for each, and finished the essay. Teacher didn’t let us guess on the rest because the ACT thing said so, so… What I do now? We had to choose 4 colleges to send it to, so just making sure, if i get my score, and dont wanna send it, i can call them or fill out a form at collegeboard?
Science portion was harder than the practice test i took
If you are concerned by your scores, you should have not filled out the names of 4 colleges. Only way you can not have them sent, is to cancel your scores before they are out or contact ACT directly to see if you can remove the colleges. After your scores are posted, it is too late. BTW, College Board is for the SAT not ACT.
I think some basic chemistry knowledge was needed for today’s test… stuff like knowing that negative ions are attracted to protons. If your test number was 72A, then it was a reused test from back in February 2014. There are lots of discussion boards, so you should check those out.
@Illionaire: Here is a link to change/cancel/add colleges to your ACT http://www.actstudent.org/faq/changeschool.html
The April 28th, 2015 was the hardest ACT i have ever taken. I got 35 math and English when I took it on April 18th, this time I’m not sure if I even got a 30 in them… Science and reading were ridiculous too imo…
@Gumbymom It was mandatory, we we either had to choose the college, or bubble in not going to college at all. Said the instructor.
