Act Or Boys State

Boys state sign in is the same day as when I’m supposed to take the act. Should I reschedule my act date for September of my senior year, or not go to boys state. I have not taken any standardized tests yet. Thanks!

I have no idea what boys state is so I think you need to clarify that.

It’s based on when you need your ACT test scores. ACT scores usually start coming out around 10 days after your test date. Your next ACT test is Sept 10 (followed by one on Oct 22).

If you don’t need your ACT scores, till October, then you can depend on the Sept 10th test. But that’s your first test, so you may want to tentatively plan on taking it a second time (if needed) on Oct 22nd.

Look at the list of colleges you wish to attend, when do they need your (finale) ACT scores? If the above dates work, then go ahead and attend Boys State (it’s a nice Leadership EC).

Go to Boys State and register for act tests in September and another date in the fall. Use the summer to prep very seriously. Apply to universities with rolling admissions and applications up in july-September without your scores, and send them when you take the test.

I have a different take. We wanted out kids to be as close to done with testing as possible junior year. I’d have had my kid’s test. It makes for a much less stressful fall if most of your testing is done, and you have a better idea of your target schools going into the fall.

Sure, taking the test before the fall would be nice, but is it worth it to give up Boys State?

I think it’s not worth giving up Boys’ State. It’s a rather big deal. The ACT can be taken three times in the Fall if need be.

Boys’ State for sure! You’ll have plenty of time to study for the ACT later in the summer. Seriously, the only reason to skip Boys’ State would be if you were selected for an even more prestigious summer program (some sort of MIT robotics thing or something).

My daughter went to Girls State here in CA last summer. I can’t say enough great things about the program.
