So, I've taken the ACT twice now and have scored in the low 20's. My biggest problem is the math section and for some reason, I just can't crack at least a 30 on the English. I'm considering taking the SATs, but after doing some SAT practice questions, I realize I'm not a huge fan of the test format. I think some of the math questions are confusing, but unlike the ACTs, the SAT math only goes up to geometry and not trigonometry. I think the English is a little easier on the ACT than CR and W on the SAT. Does anyone have advice? Should I take the SAT in Sept. or November and see how it goes? The big problem is I'm not sure which test I should study for this summer.

It’s really hard to answer your question, because I really don’t know that much about where you are right now. It just sounds like, from your post, that you prefer the ACT, because you prefer the format of the ACT, but don’t do so well. Is it that you don’t know how to do a lot of the math problems? If you look through a math textbook that covers that material and do a lot of practice, you should be able to improve your score quite readily. As for English, I can’t remember what that section is like, but I remember that the ACT seems easier on the English section. As in, the answers are more intuitive. It seems that if you know the main idea of the passages, the questions shouldn’t be too hard. I think it’s easier to improve on the ACT than on the SAT, but that might just be me. It’s different for everyone. I think you should take a practice SAT and see how you do first, before forgetting the SAT altogether.

where do you want to apply?
