I am really struggling on the science section.

For those who are good at this section, what are you strategies? How much time do you spend on each type of passage? Etc.?

Thanks in advance!!!

I’m never quite sure what qualifies as “good” on CC, but I did receive a 33 in science on the April test. My basic strategy is to not spend time reading the introductory paragraphs of each passage. I usually look briefly at the graphs/charts to orient myself and then start right away with the questions. Occasionally, lengthy questions will require that you SKIM a paragraph. Also, I leave the “conflicting scientists” passage for last as it often takes the most time and requires you to read lengthy text. I’m not a fan of biology, but I do enjoy chemistry so if there is a passage very geared towards chemistry I’ll often start with that passage as a morale boost. I hope you find this helpful :)

You could try the DRV strategy.

Simply, you do the Data passages first (those with five questions). You then do the Research passages second (those with six questions). Lastly, you do the Viewpoints passage (that with seven questions). There will always be 3 Data Passages, 3 Research Passages, and 1 Viewpoints passage. The theory is that you do the easiest passages first, then the harder ones, so if you are short on time, you should have gotten most of the questions you have done correct, since they were easier.

If one is concerned about time, would it not be better to leave the easiest sections for last, so they can be finished quicker?

But if you do them first, then you know that they will be accurate. You leave ones that you may get wrong in the first place until last, so that you have accuracy on the easy ones, and accumulate points there.

I did the strategy on the practice test from the Red Book that I took today, and got a 34 on it.

I recommend that you jump right into the questions for all of the passages EXCEPT the viewpoints passage. Actually read that one first.
