Science kills my score everytime. I only got a 25 last time where i had 34(Math), 33(Reading), 33(English). How do you guys do this test? What is the best way to approach it?

Bump. (I would like to know as well.)

i didn’t read any of the graphs and went straight to the questions. With this method I got a 34 :)

Ditto to not reading any of the graphs. Just go to the questions and look backwards for key words to answer the questions. Reading the entire setup is a waste of time.

SKIM the graphs or you can all out skip them. Just know where the information you need is. Then go to the questions and search back for the answers through the graphs. Some graphs aren’t even used so reading them before knowing your questions is a complete waste of time.

ALSO if you always seemed to be strapped for time save the reading passage for last. There are 3 passages containing graphs with 5 questions, 3 more containing 6 questions, and ONE reading passage containing 7 questions. Take 5 seconds before you start the section of the test and do these in order of # of questions. If you’ve saved the reading passage for last you can speed up, skim, and infer to answer these questions.

(I got a 36 on this section)

I’m exactly the same way. I aced every section but the science one, not because it’s hard, there just isn’t enough time to really think much at all about the information that is presented. For that reason, don’t focus on the graphs and paragraphs because they throw in a lot of junk that you don’t need. The problem is figuring out what you need out of the explosion of facts they give you. The best way is pretty much what has already been said. Go straight to the questions, then look for key words in the questions that you can scan for out of the data and get your answer that way. It saves a lot of time, which is precious on the ACT, probably more so on this section than any other, depending on your skills.

Great Advice! Thanks! :)

Thanks Guys

I wonder why there has been so many people wanting to have science advice…

its so much different than any other section… if u dont know to skip and go straight to the questions its almost unfair

^I never did a practice test before when I took it and even I could look at it for such a short time limit and be like ‘hmmmm, yea not reading this… what’s the first question???’ It’s not really a sneaky trick or something…
I think people go into a test and just try to go straight through without actually thinking about time or strategy.

Well i disagree with this… I simply read the graphs and passages first and then answered the questions. I got a 36 anyways
I think people need practice pacing themselves most importantly. While skipping passages can save time, I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary. Just practice finishing each passage in 5 minutes.

i skip the graphs and just read the passges = 36.

That’s not possible.

What do you do when it says “According to Table 1”…or something that addresses a graph.

You have to look at the graphs, but you rarely have to look at the passage.

Bump/tagged, thanks.

@egbert :
I skip the graphs and only refer to them only if I need to.

about what score would you get on the sci section if you miss 5 or 6 questions?

28/29? 10 char

Buuuuuuuummmmmmmp!

nice advices! thanks! i got a 22 on science i was skipping some graphs and when i got the results i thought i got a 22 because i didnt pay much atttention to the graphs but practicing i understand how much it helps!!!
