My D got a 31 on her last ACT (35 M, 34 S, 29 R, 24 E). Is this score good enough for Cornell (Hotel)? Everything else on her app looks very good. Class rank was 4/489, could possibly be higher after this year.

She got a 27 on first ACT, and went up in everything except English, unfortunately. SAT scores are not good, but she already sent SAT 2's (760 Math 1, 650 Chem.) before taking SAT 1.

no. the cornell hotel school 25th percentile ACT is 26. the 75th percentile is 30. that is very good. my source is the following link, check it out, it is amazing.

Nevermind, your D is applying to the hotel school. I think you're ACT is fine. I don't think improving on chemistry would help. I probably wouldn't focus on testing anymore. She should probably improve on other areas of her application, like gaining relevant work experiences.

Thanks for all of the replies! She received the same score in English twice...it's definitely her weak point, and I'm not really sure that she can get much higher with additional testing. Chem she took in 10th grade, after honors (not AP) chem...she's taking IB physics HL, which is a 2 year course, so she won't be finished with that until end of senior year.

She is currently working at a Hyatt Regency (since February), and she is in the top 1% of her graduating class of 490+, many of her ECs are hospitality related, and she has had several leadership positions. She's a crazy hard worker, and I'm pretty sure her recs will be very good.

Do you think she has a shot?? The Hotel School at Cornell is the only place she wants to go! She hasn't found even one other school which fits her so well, in every aspect! (Which is making me really worried!!!)

I think she has a great shot. The hotel school is an awesome program for kids with a passion -- sounds like your D. Try to visit and do an on-campus interview -- which she should dress up for like a job interview. Get great recs from employers/supervisors. If there's anyone she knows that's a Cornell Hotel School grad ... a rec from them would be a plus.
