Act scores

So assuming that i get a 36 on my ACT retake and the fact that i am currently 5th in rank would my essays still have a large impact in enrollment at UT Austin? Not trying to skip out just wondering…
I have read their website but this is assuming a score of 36…

You should never assume a perfect ACT score and a good ranking will get you in. So yes, work on your essays!

im not going towards that idea… i just wanted to know if they care about the essays as much as if i had scored a little lower

and just wondering… if im not mistaken they would like two essays but what i wrote three and my third one wasnt as strong as the others… would it count against me?? I just want to make sure that i dont screw anything up

I remember reading somewhere that some guy was applying to CS and got perfect scores on the ACT and a really high score on the SAT as well as good ECs. He got rejected. He said that he that the reason he probably didn’t get in was because of his essays.

Are you not auto admit with that rank? If you are applying within a highly competitive major then there are no guarantees. But otherwise you are auto admit to the school in general. The other programs also have special requirements- such as plan 2 and honors and others.

The academic index (rank and test scores) are half of the equation. The personal achievement index (ECs, essays, personal factors) are the other half. Auto admits get in based on rank alone (if they meet minimum requirements) but they are not guaranteed their choice of major.

From what we have seen posted here, they read all three essays and give you scores based on the best two.

gettingschooled-thank you very much…
my first two essays were pretty good but topic c is giving me some trouble because its so open.
