So, I got my score today. Not as pretty as I was hoping for. I scored a low 20.
I was thinking I would score 25-28 where "the bulk" of the students score.
I think if I study formulas for the math section, my score will go up drastically

Are ACT results a BIG factor when deciding admissions?

Some people just do better on one test or another, they're completely different styles. For example I only submitted ACT scores because I loathed the SAT. Also, you might just have had an off day, just keep practicing and try again.

Part of what makes the ACT so difficult is that unlike the SAT, it's a speed test. You really have to be able to do it very quickly while minimizing mistakes in order to score high as the questions aren't AS difficult as the SAT but you are handicapped by the format of the exam.

ACT is a test of what you know; SAT is a test of potential. Many strong students score better on one than the other. Admissions departments will consider the better test scores for the individual candidate. An interesting note: the reason schools are requiring SAT subject tests is because they are finding that the SAT is highly coachable. They feel that the subject tests are not so easy to coach & thus provide more insight. ACT scores are almost always accepted as they are ... no SAT subject tests needed. According to the admissions reps I have heard speak on the topic, ACT provides a good enough picture of ability on its own.
