ACT vs. SAT scores

Since this is the hindsight and lessons learned forum, I thought this would be an appropriate section to ask my question. Which scores are better to submit to a college? I would imagine that a 2400 SAT looks better than a 36 ACT but my question is more of a situation based question. For example, my SAT score so far is a 1960 (cr/m/w) (700/670/590) I know, I know about the writing score. And my ACT is a 30 I don’t quite remember each individual score. Which would be better to submit to colleges? I will be taking both again but I am just curious from the point of view of you veterans. Any help would be appreciated and if this needs to be moved to a different forum please let me know. Thank you very much!

The ACT of 30 is an overall better score and probably falls at or above the 50th to 75% of most good schools! ( not Ivys of course). My S obtained the same score! He is applying to good LACs and this along with two SAT 2 scores will be the only scores he will submit. The 30 is sufficient for these schools.

Thank you Oura, I was curious because I am applying to one ivy but I of course hope for a higher ACT, preferably a 33 or 34. My SAT II scores are: 750 us history and 730 lit score. Would those be good enough and should I take any more?

Does anyone else have any insight into ACT vs.SAT? If I need additional subject tests or not. I only have the chance to take the ACT once again and the SAT or SAT subject tests once again so any advice would be helpful!

DId you take the ACT with writing? If so, what was your essay score? I think the writing would have to be justified on the SAT - I say send the ACT.

Ahhh thank you csdad, good old Google! Ahsmuoh, I did take t with writing and although I can never write above an 8 on the SAT essay it appears that I have written a 10 on the ACT essay. I also I received a 4 on the AP English Lang and Composition test and a 730 on the literature subject test so I’m not sure what happened with my awful writing.
