act

i've only taken the SAT, and my score is rather good (2280). i've heard people say it helps to take the act as well, but i know that my act scores wont compare to my sat scores, so is it really worth taking them?

well... how do you know?

and I would say that it's unnecessary.

No. It is not.

It will make little difference at U of C. Remember also that Chicago only uses the CR & Math and does not look at the writing score. It is more important to spend the time on the essays.

You can't be sure that you won't do better on the SAT, though. I had a score similar to yours on the SAT (2300). I wasn't going to even bother with the ACT, but I decided in June to take it for scholarship reasons, and I got a 35. There's really nothing to lose by taking the ACT, except maybe four hours of your life. But I'm not sure if you need to.
