Acting/MT College Audition and Response

I'm just sort of interested in where everyone applied and how it went... so here i go!

Waiting to hear:
Ithaca College- loved the faculty, worked with me a lot (in the room for 10 minutes) !
Carnegie Mellon- sent to both rooms, worked with Barbara and Kaf, very laid back and nice
DePaul- received a callback, love the program
Rutgers Mason Gross- nice audition, didnt receive either of the two callbacks
Fordham- sent to both rooms, worked with a lot
Boston University- auditioned in front of one person, worked on for 15 minutes, feel it went okay
Hartt School- auditioned in front of one faculty member and a student, didnt really like the environment, good audition
Mulenberg- surprisingly loved it, really personal, audition went well, got to get an interview with admissions and sit in on a class

Rejected:
Juilliard- not a very good experience, auditioned in front of people who looked bored haha, didnt receive a callback on initial day
Temple- I have nooo idea how i was rejected since my grades are above average at the school but there was no audition

Still have to audition:
Montclair State University

I want to go to Carnegie Mellon, Fordham, DePaul, Muhlenberg, Rutgers or Ithaca so hopefully I'll get into one of them :)

I feel like I screwed myself by only having a list of 6 schools… Granted their are 2 programs where I could be considered for at several of the schools so its kinda like I applied to more.

Rejected:

 • NYU (BFA MT - ED). - I personally loved the environment of the audition. There were current students that escorted us around (we were split into 4 groups) & they answered any questions we had & tried to ease everyone’s anxiety

Waiting:

 • U of Arizona (BFA MT & Acting) - the audition was okay. We were put in a dance room with chairs & a questionnaire to fill out. The audition panel were nice. They smiled and answered questions. Overall it was okay, nothing spectacular. But the current students helping did offer to show me the theater (but I said no since I’d already seen it)
 • UCLA (BA MT) - I liked the audition. It was quite relaxed. I was one of the first few to leave due to the fact that I was #13/40. Current students again answered questions & escorted me. The acting panel guy seemed a little cold but it could have been that he didn’t want to get my hopes up. The dancing & singing panel was great though! They opened a lounge for parents to sit & had a cafe to buy food & coffee
 • USC (BFA Acting & BA Theater Arts) - it was nice and chill. They provided us with a buffet breakfast though I didn’t eat anything due to nerves. The interviewer was funny & the acting panel was very welcoming.
 • Pace (BFA MT & BFA Acting) - the audition was the most dance intensive of all of my auditions. There was a ballet combo & a fast jazz combo. The dance teacher was very funny though. Amy Rogers was the one I sang for. She was sweet and answered questions. I also auditioned for acting in front of a different guy who laughed during my audition and was welcoming. (I was a walk-in for acting since I didn’t think I could schedule them on the same day. But I walked in last minute & it seemed to go great. They accommodated my needs very well for the acting guy waited for me to finish my MT audition rather than have me rush back & forth)

Accepted:
CalState Fullerton (BA Theater Arts) - this is my safety school which required no audition for you audition at the end of your sophomore year for their BFA MT program. But I liked the atmosphere when I visited the campus.

Sorry for my ranting =P hope that is kinda what you wanted to hear

I think your list is fine- my parents made me add more than seven schools which is what i originally had because they were like “just in case” haha
At least youve already heard from somewhere
Does calstate fullerton have a good program?

From what I’ve heard their BFA is really good, like apparently ranked high with the training in prestigious schools. It just tends to get less recognition due to the fact that you enter in the BA Theater Arts & then audition end of soph year. But it is just as difficult to get into their BFA which is I believe a class of 10-20. Once in junior year though you are in it til you graduate. During your 1st two years you tell them what you are working towards & they create your geneds accordingly, like at orientation I will say BFA MT & they will begin preparing me for their BFA during my 1st 2 years. I don’t know exactly how accurate this is, but it is just from what I’ve heard & researched a little. I thought it would be a good backup since I wanted schools in either Cali or NY

“Actr12” - what were “both rooms” at Fordham? They indicated at Open Huose that they rarely worked much with the candidates, and that the auditions would be quick. That was my son’s experience, more or less; they were running somewhat behind schedule, and so he presumed that they wanted to keep the auditions short and sweet.

Stagemum–

Did your son audition off-campus? I auditioned on-campus, and there were two rooms, but only some people were sent to both. I got the impression that they only had two rooms on-campus, though. One of the students helping out had auditioned in Cali, and she had only auditioned for one panel.

My son auditioned on-campus at Fordham-L.C. I didn’t ask him for many specifics, actually. Did you present both pieces to two separate teams of reviewers, or did you submit the modern and classical pieces to different teams?

My son had the following

NYU (BFA) - one woman; felt it didn’t go very well. It was different then the first auditor explained. The woman sort asked one or two questions and it took him a few seconds before he realized he was supposed to lead the conversation. But NYU was just sort of for the heck of it…not enough aid to make it worth his while

Pace (BFA) - Accepted. Auditioned 2/5; Went through the main audition and then was called back for the “movement workshop” (he said it was clearly a call back); Received an email stating he made it to the final round which was a phone interview. 2/15 had phone interview was told at the conclusion of the phone call he was accepted and would receive and email which arrived the next day.

Fordham - Auditioned 2/4; Went to the first panel and was invited to the second panel. He said they spent lots of time working with him and really seemed to like him. We were told we probably wouldn’t hear until the end of March we will see. (My sons opinion was the second group was clearly a callback because of the longer discussions and they worked on varying your delivery for your pieces.)

Marymount Manhattan - Doesn’t audition until march 17.

My son definitely was not called in for second review at Fordham, so that doesn’t sound very promising.

I auditioned on campus in New York on February 4th, 2012.
I started off in a room with Matthew McGuire and two other teachers and then the woman there just asked me to do my monologue in a different way and sent me down the hallway to the other room. They worked with me for like 5 minutes.
Maybe they did that because it was an early session or something…im not sure.
I met a girl who was sent to both rooms too but this freshman at Fordham said its good but it doesnt mean your definitely accepted (he wasnt called into both rooms and he got in).

I auditioned on campus, and I did two monologues for the first panel, and three monologues for the second. My audition was earlier in the day though. When I first went down, they were running a few minutes early, but by the time I was out of the second audition, they were running way late. It’s very possible that if my audition wasn’t so early in the day, this wouldn’t have happened. My audition was around 10:30, and I got out around 12:30.

Also, the students who were helping out insisted that the “callbacks” weren’t really callbacks at all, really more of a second opinion. She said that it was like when kids ask their dad something, and the dad tells them to ask their mother.

@kcdunlap did your son audition at pace itself? I auditioned at the california audition & as far as I know there was no “movement callback”. (at least not one that I was called back for…) when did he receive the phone interview & acceptance email? (sorry for all my questions, I’m just freaking out!!)

The email to schedule the phone calls was sent within a few days after the weekend of the auditions. The gentlemen that did his telephone interview said these were done after each weekend that they did auditions (which lead me to think it was both in NYC or other cities).

My son auditioned in NYC

Oh okay thanks. I guess I can assume that I was rejected since I didn’t get a call?

Here is my list:

Rejected: Ithaca- just bad in general. My first audition so I was more nervous than usual. I had my monologues worked on though, which helped me at my other auditions.

Waiting to hear:
SUNY Purchase (BFA Acting) - Very good experience, but I did not receive a call back. Worked in front of two seniors who seems disinterested, and bored through out. I was second to go in.

Fordham (BA Acting) - Very good experience. I worked with Tina. I was not sent to the second panel, but I was asked to present a third monologue, and works on both contemporary pieces a lot. Don’t think I got in because I was not sent to the second panel.

Marymount Manhattan (BFA acting/MT minor) - It was okay. One of the judges was eating sushi while I sang my piece, and I was a bit sharp going into the second verse. Acting went okay. I didn’t like performing in front of everyone else who was auditioning. NO one was rude or mean, it just didn’t feel right to me. I was third to last to go because it was alphabetical order, and my last name begins with T.

Adelphi (BFA Acting) - Amazing school, amazing people! Enough said! I loved it. I hope I get in.

Point Park (Acting/MT) - I auditioned at unifieds, so it was very much “hello, your audition is a 2:40, but we’re running early, you’re next. good luck!” So I pretty much went into my audition 5 minutes after I got there. It was okay. My song could have gone better, but I think I did well on my monologues.

AMDA - Went well. Not sure. Worked in front of one person who said I was a “great actress” not sure if she was just saying that.

I might audition for U arts. I really hope I get into PPU and Adelphi!

AthenaL, your auditors at Purchase were seniors, not faculty members? That’s…startling.

NJTheatreMOM, I was about to say the same!

*NJTheatreMOM-I had four people on my panel. Two were faculty, and two were seniors. I don’t know if they have a voice in the decisions, but they were in the room. Sorry, I did not make that more clear. I was told by the student helper who was taking me in that its not something they usually do. For whatever reason they were in the room.

DD’s NYC auditions… Pace, participated in movement workshop, no phone interview. Fordham, when she arrived they were running late. Was not asked into second room. NYU, thought it went well but we’ll see. Marymount, went well, what a long day! She was not asked to make acting changes at any of her auditions.
