I think that the ACT is easier in general, but it's mostly luck on what kind of test you're gonna get. Sometimes the science/reading are really easy(english and math are usually the same difficulty), and other times they are horrible. It all depends on the test, which kinda sucks.

I got a 31, twice :/ I guess the only good thing about that it that it shows consistency..haha

I am better at writing/verbal, but I did significantly better on the ACT. I've only taken each test once.

2160 SAT (740 CR/670 M/750 W)
34 ACT (35 R/34 E/31 M/35 S)

For both tests, math was my lowest score. SAT math is generally easy for me, but I only base that on PSAT tests and practice questions. I think my math score was a little bit of a fluke on the real test. ACT math was hard! I always finish with time to spare, but that was the one section that I had unanswered questions on (except that I filled in some random answers on the remaining questions before time was up).

In my opinion, don't predict SAT scores off of PSAT scores. My PSAT was a 223, which should have led to a score around 2230 (70 points off). But maybe that's due to weird SAT grading... I missed one question (a fill-in-you-own-answer one, no less!) on the math portion of the PSAT, and was docked 50 points. Crazy!

I think ACT has more of a time-crunch, except for the essay (you have 5 extra minutes). It's an easier test just to "wing it" for, without studying before hand. It truly is logic-based. The science portion is the best example of this... you need very little scientific knowledge. The ability to comprehend graphs and experiments and to read semi-technical paragraphs is the biggest key.

Honestly, ACT worked well for me as a reading/verbal based test. Besides the reading and English sections, the science is basically another reading comprehension thing, with a few graphs thrown in. So that's 3 out of 4 sections that depend on your reading ability. Worked better for me!

I'm from Texas, and I would say SAT is the more widely-taken test. I recommend trying both, though, because my ACT score really surprised me. I'll probably be taking both again in the fall, before I send in college applications. I'm really working for a perfect score on one of them...

I love the ACT. By the time you take it a second time (and maybe with a few practice tests as I did), the time constraints shouldn't be a big deal except maybe on science. I've always considered myself better in writing/verbal, but I pulled a 35 on ACT math (as opposed to a 690 SAT--unfair curve IMO) because it was so straightforward.

PSAT(2 tries): 205
SAT ("): 1430 M+V (690+740), 2220 M+V+W (790; 12 essay)
ACT ("): 34--35E, 35M, 33R, 33S; 10 essay [superscore with 35R = 35]
