Additional info? Paranoid or proactive?

I don't know if I'm being paranoid or proactive here. I have a few things on my application that COULD be misconstrued, but probably not. I'm wondering if I should upload an "Additional Info" document just to make sure, but I also don't want to adversely affect my chances by doing so.

It's basically stuff like my high school operating on a semester system so I don't have the required 16 YEAR LONG courses, or that I tested out of English 101 and am taking English 205 so I don't have "TWO semesters of English composition", etc.

These things are typically addressed by your high school counselor in his/her recommendation and in the school profile. He/she should explain the type of system your high school operates on-- or more likely, it should be in the school profile.

Thanks, camomof3!

I am actually applying as a transfer though, graduated high school in 2010. My recommendation is from my current college academic adviser.

I would think that, given that I got into and attended UCLA, USC would realize that I did meet the requirements despite some “non-traditional” aspects of my application, but I’m just not sure and don’t want to leave anything to chance. I don’t know if it could actually -hurt- my application by clarifying or not though.

One of the things I noticed when looking over the application requirements is that USC is very friendly to students who are homeschooled or attended alternative schools. I noticed there were requirements (such as taking SAT subject tests) to compensate. SO I wouldn’t worry. Adding extra stuff to a file is discouraged - probably because of the volume they’d received. At this point, you’ve already attended UCLA. As long as your grades have been good (I’m assuming you’ve been in college for a few years???) I think they’ll only give high school a cursory glance.

Well, here is what I wrote up. I’m not sure if I’m going to add it to my application or not yet…Thoughts?

"Clarifications:

*USC’s requirements state: “You must submit secondary school records and proof of graduation. At minimum, your high school record should consist of 16 year-long courses, including 13 in academic solids and up to three in acceptable electives.”

I would like to clarify that my 5 AP courses were year-long but the rest of my courses were semester-long because my charter high school operated on a semester system. However, I still took the required 4 English courses, 3 science courses, 3 math courses (including honors algebra II), 5 history/social science courses, and 3 foreign language courses in the same language.

*USC’s requirements state: “You must complete two semesters of English composition before enrolling at USC.”

I tested out of English Composition 101 at San Diego Mesa College and am currently enrolled in English 205 - Critical Thinking and Intermediate Composition. I spoke to Samantha Schreiber at USC and she said that only 205 is needed. However, if I still need to take another semester of English composition before enrolling at USC, I would be glad to do so during the summer if accepted to USC for Fall 2014."

So yes? No? Pros/cons? Does it sound clear?

Thanks, guys! I appreciate your help.

Any thoughts?
