Well, my app for UVA is about complete and I was wondering if you guys suggest filling in the additional information section on the CA. I was planning on writing a short supplement about how UVA is my #1 and why I want to attend so badly. I'm somewhat hesitant because my counselor from last year (who btw was fired this year) said that the heaviest file is the fastest to sink. I could write a very good supplement about why I love UVA but I don't want to make it seem like I'm possessed.

The sort of statement/essay you are talking about is pretty common in college admission. Some call it the “love letter” and I really don’t think it’s necessary. Use the Additional Information section to give us information that we won’t find elsewhere (scheduling conflicts, family situations, etc).

Filling out the application is your statement of interest to us. You wouldn’t jump through those hoops if you weren’t interested in UVa.

Alright, thanks for the response Dean J. I assume that the “love letter” is much like the McEssay. My councilor who’s son and husband both went to UVA is writing me something so I think that will suffice.

I was debating it Euro :). I mean I want the admission officers to know that this is my #1 school, not just a safety. I know a lot of kids apply just to apply, but this is my #1.

It depends on the college. U. Penn wants students to write about why they love U. Penn. U. Va. wants students to write about themselves. That is one of many reasons why my son is apply to U. Va. and not U. Penn.

That is a good point Charlie. However, I want to be at a school where the kids love the school and I know UVA offers that. I’ve been a huge fan of UVA since like 5th grade and I could probably write something very well about why UVA is so special for me.

I actually like the idea of disclosing your screen name on your app…you are somewhat of a “legend” on the UVa board. Anyone who has read your posts has no doubt about your passion for UVa and your desire to attend.

In any event, good luck in your pursuit. It will soon be out of your hands!

I’m the only one who would recognize a screen name and I won’t read the apps of students I recognize. Sorry, folks. The amount of time you spend on here won’t be a factor in the review of our application. :)

And lol, would be pretty funny putting my screen-name on. Under EC’s I would put something along the lines of:
“CollegeConfidential Addict; Haunt the UVA forums on my account “UVAorBust”. Yes, this is really my screen name and no I’m not obsessed, well maybe, well alright fine yes, but that is besides the point”

And Dean J, I was told by someone who currently attends UVA that the Adcoms like to know that if students are accepted they will attend and that they are not just applying as a safety. Is there any truth to this statement?

Now that I think about it, if I did put CC as a EC would Deans just laugh at me :).

I don’t know why, but I have started to stress about UVA more and more lately. I’ve read the “official UVA decision theards” from the past 5 years and admission just looks so random. Judging by my old school’s scattergram I’m right on the 50% mark so I really don’t know. I can’t wait until April 1st. if I get in, it will honestly be the happiest day of my life and I would love to finally prove to my parents that I have no shot at UVA.

Let’s just say my house is PESSIMISTIC! Example, when I got my 33 on the ACT my parents made me print it out because they didn’t believe me… Against all odds lol…
BTW forgot to say this earlier: GL at ED Penn Euroazn.

EDIT: Rofl, just caught that typo. Man, maybe their pessimism is starting to affect me subconsciously.
