I'm applying to Princeton using the Common App.

I remember looking at the Princeton App last year, and at the end, there was a section for additional information. It included an area to submit any additional letters of rec. The Common App also has an additional information section, but I didn't see anywhere to submit an additional letter of rec. Do you just submit a third Teacher Evaluation or something? (The recommender is a professor whose lab I worked in this summer.)

Any help is greatly welcome! Thanks!

I’d like to know this too. Do we just send it to the school? It’s so different now since they got rid of their own app… Thanks!

It looks like when you pull down the supplement for Princeton it shows you can submit three letters of rec. You then put what type of person it is. You can put other and then put in the email address of that person so they can do the letter. Hope that helps.

Hmm. Is this on the page where you find the additional forms and whatnot?

For some reason, it says my school uses Naviance (which we do, but it’s stupid that I can’t use the same Common App set up) for those forms, so I have no clue what to do… Maybe I just need to talk to my counselor once school starts, although he doesn’t know very much.

You have to select the schools that use the Common App that you will be applying. Then click on the forms and then click the school. It will then give you the requirements that school has for recs. Then click the prompt to load the rec’s email addresses and what they are, either a teacher or other. Hope that helps.

Yes… That’s how you normally do it, but my school requires Naviance, so I can’t do it like that I don’t think. I have all of my schools selected already. When I click on school forms, I get this message:

“These school forms are available for completion electronically by your counselor through your school’s subscription to College Planner from Naviance. Some schools also allow completion of the forms electronically by your instructors as well, though you should confirm with your counselor for appropriate guidance. If your school requests that you print these forms out, they are listed below.”

When I view the instructions for the Common Application School Forms, they don’t match what I’m seeing. I don’t have anywhere to upload email addresses or anything. All I have is a list of downloadable PDFs.

^ Same problem here. I don’t see any option except the downloadable PDFs for 2 Teacher Recs, Counselor, and School Forms.

If I want to send my additional letter of rec by mail, can I just have that person send it (without a form since I can’t find any) to the college’s undergrad admissions office?

But schools have made it clear not to submit things both by mail and online (except for the art supplement, I presume?). Hmm. I’m really interested to hear what people have to say about this issue.

^ Really? I was under the impression that I could submit my application online, print off the downloadable rec forms to give to my counselor, who then would mail those…

I have no idea, actually. I’m going to talk to my counselor about it once school starts. It may have to work out that way, but I’m not sure. Supposedly, you can submit letters of rec and other forms online via Naviance, so you wouldn’t mail them in. I’ll be sure to let you know what my counselor says, though (assuming he knows what he’s talking about).

You need to give your letters of rec that are done on paper with a stamped envelope addressed to the address you want them sent. That will impress the teacher and hopefully they will write a great letter of rec.
