I am interested in having a professor I was working under write me a recommendation letter, but how will he address it? For example, if I was applying to multiple colleges, will he have to change the name of the college on the letter and submit it separately for each college?
He will likely know what to do. Generally they do one generic letter. You can ask your GC about the best way to get it to your colleges.
Thanks for the help!
Would it be submitted through CommonApp or as a physical letter? If it is through CommonApp, he would not be able to adapt the letter for each school.
I think it is impolite to ask to have it adapted for each school. Hard on the recommender.
@billcsho Thanks for the help. The professor would be submitting the letter through common app, so I guess he can’t change it… So should he just address the letter as “To whom it may concern”?
@intparent I agree with that. The professor is already doing me a huge favor by writing me a letter, and I don’t want to trouble him anymore.
That would work. He may already be used to writing recs for grad school, so just tell him the letter will be used for multiple colleges.
