Admission decisions as of now

your GPA is very good, but your attended a tiny HS and missed the combination of GPA and test score. I would write a letter to your admissions person showing your desire to attend UW and somehow explain away your ACT score. I would wait until your midterm grades are sent. Good luck

Thank you for the suggestions and well wishes! This definitely helps!

I just got in

AP Language and Composition (3)
Moved to California junior year, GPA went from 4.0 > 3.71 > 3.74 UW, top 10% by end of year, explained in essay

Senior year classes: Anatomy/Physiology, Economics, Calc I, Physics, Intro to Engineering, Academic Writing, American Government, Principles of Macroeconomics, Intro to Sociology, Principles of Microeconomics, Intro to Literature, American History II

ECs: Science Olympiad, Chess Club secretary (lol), Varsity track, FIRST Robotics team, Math League, Choir, Knowledge Bowl, Natural Helpers, babysitting summer job

Essays: Despite having a few grammatical errors and not mentioning how UW is my first choice, it worked for me.

Application completed 11/1

Postponed- could be a 50-50 chance of getting in. Get good first semester grades and report them. I see where a lower ACT but high grades can lead to admission. This means people who do the work and must have good study habits that will serve them well in college. Plus having enough extra time to participate in EC’s.

HS students- always remember that grades will trump activites. Do not let your grades suffer because you are spending your time with them instead of doing your homework and preparing for tests. All of the EC’s in the world will not replace a good foundation of knowledge and study habits.

Accepted.
In state.

Decision: Postponed
GPA: 3.8
ACT: 24 (terrible…i know)
Ranked in the top 20% of my class
president of spanish club, a lot of volunteering, NHS, many other ECs
does anyone know anything I can do to increase my chances of getting admitted? This is my dream school!

Postponed isn’t terrible (it’s better than one of the other options).

From everything I’ve read on CC, it seems that trying to improve your weakness is the best approach. I would guess that’s your ACT score. Can you take a prep course, and re-take soon? Also, other suggestions have been to send in first semster grades, write another essay on why your ACT score is low and why Wisconsin is your top choice, and send another recommendation, etc.

Worst case, attend another UW school, get great grades first semester, and submit a transfer request to UW-Madison.

I’m just waiting for my decision, so listen to others…I’m only trying to help!

Good Luck!

Agree with above post’s suggestions.

Accepted back in November and ATTENDING!

Good luck everyone still waiting! GO BADGERS!

Now I just need to get some scholarships…

Siriusly: Congrats on the acceptance! Are you planning on attending? Also, I love your username. I assume it’s a Harry Potter reference. XD

Accepted to College of Letters & Sciences and attending

ACT: 28
Unweighted GPA: 3.5
Weighted GPA: 4.2
Full IB Diploma Candidate, AP NSL (5)
ECs: 800+ SSL Hours

Factors: Attending as a Posse Scholar

alo… You were accepted to the university as a whole, regardless of intended major or school/college. This means you can easily change your mind about your plans- you are not limited to any school/college within the university.

To those hoping for scholarships but don’t have one already because you fall into designated categories. You can only count on need based financial aid offers as a freshman since very few receive any other scholarship aid from UW.
