ADMISSION DECISIONS FALL 2016 (CLASS OF 2020)

Hi Guys! If I have 9 AP’s, a 2240 SAT, a 3.78 GPA, 790 on SAT Chem, and 750 on SAT Bio, do I have a chance at all for scholarships? I feel kind of dumb now I didn’t send my 34 ACT :frowning:

Oh whoops my EC’s were band, like 4 President/VP positions in clubs related to my field (public health), National Merit SF, AP Scholar with distinction, Hospital Internship, 600+ service hours

@nishaus

Let’s be clear. There are partial merit scholarships and there are full tuition ones. If that GPA is unweighted, you will probably receive the top partial scholarship anyway. And while a 34 ACT is a little better than a 2240 SAT, they are pretty close. And there is plenty of time to send your 34 ACT so they use that for judging for the full scholarships, the DHS and the PTA. I assume you are going to apply for those?

@fallenchemist I think I will! First I guess I need to get in LOL. How competitive is the school for public health, do you know?

And yep, unweighted :slight_smile: Weighted would be around a 4.28ish I believe

@nishaus Among the many great things about Tulane, this is one of them. Unlike most schools, Tulane doesn’t have you apply to the business school or the architecture school or the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Every single undergraduate student applies to and is part of Newcomb-Tulane College, which contains all 5 undergraduate schools, the three I mentioned plus the School of Liberal Arts and the School of Science and Engineering. So anyone can major in anything that they want to, plus it makes it much easier to double major should you choose to do so. So in simplest terms, if you got accepted to Tulane and decided to go there, and in the middle of July changed your mind and decided you wanted to be an engineer, you wouldn’t have to do anything except arrange your class schedule to taking engineering courses. It really is that simple.

Also, Tulane is on the leading edge of emphasizing interdisciplinary studies. So if you wanted to major in Public Health but also wanted to figure out how to bring modern computing power to it by double majoring in Computer Science, you can easily do so. In fact CS majors are all coordinate majors at this point for that very reason, but that’s a bit of another story. Or if you figured out that some other aspect of Public Health could be better understood by more deeply understanding some other discipline, Tulane makes it easier for you to make that happen.

So I know you expected a much shorter answer, but this is a unique aspect of Tulane that is good to understand.

Oooh that’s great! Thanks for the info, you’ve been super helpful <3 @fallenchemist

General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: Not much to say right now. So excited and congratulations to everyone else!

Congratulations!
You have been admitted, and we welcome you to the Tulane family. You will soon receive a formal admission letter and invitations to special programs for admitted students. In the meantime, we encourage you to visit the Admitted Students section of our website.

I got this on my gibson portal… Does that mean I am in

Yes, congratulations @nfhd11214367p0i

@nfhd11214367p0i

You are making me worried that Tulane accepted you! :open_mouth: =))

Totally kidding, just having some fun with you. Yes, you now have the opportunity, as it says, to become a fellow Tulanian. Super congratulations and I hope you decide positively with regard to Tulane, although I know you will have several great choices. In a few days you will receive a paper letter, and that is where you will find out if you got any merit scholarships and/or invitation to the Honors Program. I couldn’t find your stats anywhere, although I didn’t look at all your past posts. But if you have stats that make you even borderline for an Ivy, I would think you would get something. Let us know. And congrats again.

@Le1997

We live north of Dallas, submitted on 10/22 and found out thru Gibson (Tulane on-line) last Thursday 11/5. Still waiting on the formal letter. Expect it today since there was no mail yesterday :((

Are the decisions updated at certain times or can my s check back in a few hours with hope of seeing a change in status?

I hope this post can ease the worries of any lower profile candidates. Since I myself don’t have uber stats like most users here on CC, the acceptances at my school have given me some hope. A few days ago, my good friend was admitted with a 3.4 weighted GPA and 28 ACT. She has only taken 2 honors classes and had an average essay/extracurriculars. I also have a friend who got in with a 3.5 GPA and 29 ACT without taking a single honors of AP class. I go to the #1 public school in my state which I definitely think helps since Tulane knows we have an extremely rigorous curriculum. I think these acceptances indicate that Tulane doesn’t only admit people with insanely high stats, rather they admit people who genuinely want to go to the school and aren’t just using it as a safety/backup school.

has anyone from connecticut heard yet? I completed my application on oct 15

I’m from CT and haven’t heard yet but I know some kids at my school have

Just got accepted! I’ll post some more information when I get home in a few hours, but I only applied five days ago, on Sunday night!

Has anyone been deferred or denied yet? Does Tulane only send out acceptances first?
