General Comments: Good luck all. YOU WILL DO AMAZING WHEREVER YOU GO

Yes, @six2398 In the past they sent acceptances early, deferrals are posted closer to the deadline date.

@six2398

According to the admissions officers that were on the live chat a few days ago, Tulane does not do any denials at this stage, only deferrals. I was surprised about that, although I guess I had never seen anyone post a denial on here at this time of year before. Deferrals do indeed come at the end of the deadline period.

Anyone from Massachusetts hear anything yet?

Accepted in CT!

I honestly feel like I’m going to get deferred now because my application has been complete for three weeks… I thought that my stats would get me quiet a bit of merit aid but I can’t even get accepted.

@Le1997

Is Tulane really one of your top choices?

Reflection

[ul]
[]Strengths: Test scores, transcripts, letter of recommendation, pretty good and convincing writing ability
[
]Weaknesses: Not many extracurriculars, I’m not sure if I really demonstrated my interest in Tulane
[]Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: High scores, pretty good essays
[
]Where else you are applying or have already applied: A lot of places
[li]General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: Make your essays awesome. I honestly did not have a single person edit any of my essays, which I do not recommend. However, I think that helped my own voice truly shine through, which I do think is very important. Make sure you have a voice, but make sure that your essays aren’t plagued with grammatical errors either. Also, really happy that Tulane accepted me within 5 days of applying! Congrats to those accepted, and to those who haven’t heard back yet, try not to worry too much![/li][/ul]

Also, if anyone’s curious, I applied 11/8, got accepted 11/13, and got the letter in the mail 11/20

@fallenchemist I submitted my application on November 1st. If I don’t hear back sometime next week does it mean I’ll probably be deferred/denied?

@fallenchemist I actually really love Tulane, I’m just afraid that I didn’t/don’t show it. It’s definitely one of the higher ones on my list.

@sleepyparent, we are in MA and my daughter was accepted yesterday - best of luck to you and everyone else!

This is so stressful, everyone here is saying things like “I applied a week ago will I be deferred?” and I’m over here just thinking about how I applied SCEA September 15th and the final set of test scores (transcript + first round of test scores were already in) was received by mid-October…

@obligatoryname

I can tell you with confidence it means nothing one way or the other. Last year more than others, tons of people posted that they had not heard despite early submissions while others submitted much later but already heard back. They were positive they were being deferred. About half were right, the other half got accepted near the Dec 15 deadline. You just cannot tell.

@Le1997

I saw your stats on another thread, and I think you posted later that you got a 33 on the ACT. If this is so are you applying for the DHS and PTA? They are due Dec. 5 and would show strong interest in Tulane, not to mention giving you a good shot at full tuition plus fees all paid for.

Im an international student and I sent my application via common app on Nov 11. Does anyone have any idea how long it might take Tulane to make a decision? I’m pretty worried now…

The latest you will hear is December 15 like everyone else.

    [
    ]General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: I was very surprised to get my decision so early. I was expecting to wait another month. I was even more surprised to get 27k per year in scholarship because I knew I wasn’t way above the stats. Really happy!!!

@fallenchemist Tulane is my top choice. I applied SCEA and my application was complete two or so weeks ago. My gpa and test scores are fairly low but my EC’s , essays, recommendations, ect; are top notch. I’m really worried because I see people freaking out that they think they’ve already been deferred. What are some of the lowest stats you’ve seen be accepted to Tulane? And do students with lower stats typically hear back closer to the deadline?

@mitochondria congratz!! although your reply really put me under such pressure… I sent my application on Nov 11 and haven’t heard back anything. And my IELTS score was successfully sent on Nove 9 but Gibson still indicates my application as “incomplete”. I emailed admission committee and they said it took 2-3 weeks for them to process and update. Does that happen to you too?

Does anyone know if the application status changes from “Your application is complete and is awaiting review,” to something else before the decision?

@lilbno

It is really hard to comment on the first question, because a lot of times a lowish test score is offset by higher GPA or vice-versa. I cannot recall what combination of the two that were both on the low side I have seen accepted. You can look at Tulane’s Common Data Set http://tulane.edu/oair/upload/CDS_2014-2015-final.pdf and in Sections C9, C10 and C11 you will see some stat distributions, but there are two problems with looking at only that data. First is what I just said, you cannot tell which students were on the low side for some combination of the two major stats. Second is that, and apologies to all the higher achieving athletes out there but reality is what it is, those stats include recruited athletes that as we all know often have lower stats than the average student.

The answer to your second question is, I think, yes. It has always appeared to me that Tulane waits to tell those on the borderline of their decision. I always presumed they were waiting to see how the applicant pool was shaping up that year. So in your case it might not be a surprise if you don’t hear until closer to the deadline.
