Admission into UCSC and UCSB

Hey, I am a junior in high school and I was wondering if anyone could specify the differences between UCSB and UCSC.

And I was wondering if anyone could let me know what my chances are to get into these schools. First off, I am an in-state student and in a pretty competitive high school (Not top-tier private but good public school).

GPA: 4.05(W) 3.74 (UW) 3.84 (UC)
SAT: 1740 (taking another one soon)
Classes: 1 AP, 1 Honors class (soph) /3 AP, 3 Honors classes(Junior) /Planning on taking 5 AP classes senior year
EC: Eagle Scout, CSF Member, attended college summer programs (any other suggestions??)

Interests: Computer Science (Taking AP Comp Sci next year :-* )

Unfortunately, I got a C+ in AP Physics 1 last semester and I will probably get another one this semester. These are my first 2 C’s. Everything else have been A’s and B’s. Does this ruin my chances to get into a UC???

With another 200 SAT points, you are a solid candidate for both. UC admission standards are in flux as they work through some budget challenges. Be sure to apply to a couple of schools you KNOW will admit you. Keeping with your coastal theme, SDSU and CSULB are worth a look.

Both schools are very good. Though similar in size and coastal location, they are very different campuses and student populations. I’d encourage you to tour both, talk to some students then follow your gut.

5 AP classes is a pretty heavy load senior year - I’d re-think that if I were you. You will have lots of distractions next year and your applications are due before first semester grades are recorded. That means, a stellar performance won’t help but, a poor performance will cost you.

Good luck

Cool thank you. I will definitely reconsider my classes at the beginning of next school year since I already signed up for them. I can still drop out at the beginning of the school year though.
