Admission Rates/Tips to UF Business School for Transfer Students from Community College

I am a bit confused about this. Can anyone shed some light on this matter? I see they have a high acceptance rate for transfer students in general, but to the best of my ability this is in general and not specific to the business school. I was hoping to transfer into marketing, yet I’ve read in these forums that they accept very few people into business majors outside of business administration. I’d like to hear everyone’s feed back on the matter.

To give you some information about myself, I’m a “late bloomer” and started at Miami Dade College (which is very subpar but easy to ace) just this January. As such, my GPA isn’t solidified but I’m so far all A’s in psych, algebra, English, and some other class about becoming a master student which I think counts for an elective credit.

The golden question (in my case) is whether I should start structuring my academic goals towards a UF admission for marketing as I’d initially planned, or should I set my sights to something like UCF or FIU? Is the admission process really as competitive as I’ve been lead to believe? Or is my conjecture off? If it’s such a daunting process, I’d rather spend my time not taking tons of extra math courses when I can get the same major in degree somewhere else with a lot less requirements for said field. FWIW, my ex-girlfriend thought marshmallows grew on trees and got admitted as a transfer student from FIU into UF’s agriculture or food resources department. Whichever it was, I don’t remember. Maybe it’s the same thing?

*Also I am considering changing to a better community college so I can take honors classes. MDC has this ridiculous rule that you have to be a full honors student to take any honors classes. And getting into their honors program is insanely competitive as they offer full tuition to any school they transfer to. Any pointers for where to change to? I was thinking Santa Fe or Valencia as they seem to be more respectable institutions.

TLDR:

Does one stand a realistic chance of getting in if they have a decent GPA and interesting background?

Miami Dade is UF’s second biggest feeder school after Santa Fe. You don’t need to switch for better consideration.

Transfer Admission looks at competitiveness in major so part of who gets admitted is based on who else is applying. You don’t need to be in honors classes. The requirements are here:

Hi Melissa,

To what extent are we defining competitiveness, though? I was unclear from the site and couldn’t quite place what the criteria are for getting in (in context of how we define competition, of course) or what the acceptance rates even are.

If you want someone to respond to your questions, tag them and they will get a notification. For example, use @Melissa96 if you would like them to respond.

How competitive it is at UF (for any major), varies by year, based on the number of applicants to a program. If they have no space available in a major, it may be close to impossible to transfer into it that year. That is sometimes the case with the college of business (COB).

They are more likely to accept students into the BABA major (see below) since it’s paired with an area of specialization outside of the college which makes it easier to manage the increase in enrollment.

A BABA degree with a specialization in Mass Communications, may be an option to consider.

At the end of the day, you want to keep your options open (UF COB, UCF, FIU, etc). Doing well, so you’re competitive at UF will not be a waste, even if you end up transferring to another school!

Good Luck!
