ADMISSION RESULTS SHOULD BE OUT SOON????

@OACLJV and @kitts95 I wonder if NU’s Finalist (Nation Merit/Achievement and Hispanic Scholars) intake numbers will drop this year since they lowered the award to 30k rather than full tuition? Yes, 30k is great but I know a lot of finalist who are really trying to get a full ride or at least full tuition through college with their Finalist award…or go to a top school. I have a friend who is taking the deal at Bama with 5 years tuition covered. She likes NU, but said she won’t pass up 5 years of no tuition as that 5th year will roll into graduate school.

@novafac1225 yes it is great that Northeastern’s rank is rising. I do think that they will lose some finalist to other schools though. Whether or not it hurts the overall numbers at NU remains to be seen. I doubt it. I’ve hear of some quality kids who got did not get in. The school is on the rise.

Anyway, some Finalist will go to public universities that will offer a full ride and honors/scholars programs. Also, Fordham still has the full tuition (44k) deal for Semi Finalist. That is where some may go to get a better deal at a private college (as you asked someone ‘I’d be interested to see where you’re gonna end up that is so much cheaper’). 10k/year for private school tuition a great deal, but it will be a lot more than 10k per year by the time we graduate (the 30k per year does not increase but tuition of course will). But in the end, yes the 30k+ the honors program is very generous and the honor’s housing is SUPER nice!

I believe that Northeastern is trying to weed out applicants whose only reason to attend was the full tuition scholarship. Many NMF’s will make Scholars. Now that full tuition for NMF’s is no longer guaranteed, it gives Northeastern the chance to look at an applicant’s overall application before awarding full tuition.

Do you think there’s an appeals process for the University Scholars Program? I absolutely LOVE Northeastern and really wanted that scholarship. With 10K more a year, my parents would rather me go somewhere more financially reasonable. I’m a NMF with an SAT of 2280, lots of leadership, community service and a passion for the arts. One of my biggest components about me couldn’t be conveyed through the application process (my art portfolio) and I wish they would review it because so many of my extracurriculars revolve around it.

Does anyone know if all the scholars have been notified?

@milkweed, you should have received notification via your admissions decision letter

My daughter is waiting for a decision.

You can’t appeal for University Scholars, sorry. If a 10k price tag is too much for you to stomach I am not sure why you applied to Northeastern. They already invite more Scholars than they can afford to enroll, and those of us that didn’t make the cut just didn’t make the cut.

hsgrad: yes, they will lose some NMF to other schools. However, plenty will still enroll. The key here is that while maybe less NMF will enroll, the overall competitiveness of the student body is increasing and the school is improving. I would not be surprised if the NMF award decreased over the next few years or entirely disappeared. The Dean’s scholarship still provides merit money to a lot of kids, and the University Scholars is a better/larger award that is given based on a holistic review of top applicants rather than 1 test score taken in fall of junior year. Sounds like a better system to me.

And milkweed: Scholars invites come with decision letters, so I can’t say for sure if your daughter has been invited or not. However, all EA applicants know already and NU notified most top applicants from RD already, including Scholars I’d think. In short, I’d guess if she hasn’t been admitted yet she’s not in it. The Scholars weekend is in mid-late March, and I think they’d give more notice to potential Scholars if they were attending.

What about deferred EA apps?

Any idea why we wouldn’t have heard yet? 2200 SAT, top 2% of class, AP scholar with distinction, lots of EC, will be taking 6 more AP exams in May.

You’re not alone. Waiting impatiently with top stats (2350, >4.0, APs 5s, ECs)

@novafan1225 the NMF is not based on ‘1 test score taken in fall of junior year’. That score gets some to semi finalist. To get to NMFinalist, you have to have certain SAT scores, recommendation/school report, an essay, and your transcript (generally with no C’s to be confident) all evaluated. If you make THAT cut, you make NMF. Just for point of clarification.
So, at Northeastern, your 1 test score taken in fall of junior year gets you nothing.
In terms of asking @Funkymonkey0923 why she applied in the frist place if she could not pay 10k, well that seems a bit of an odd question. Lots of people apply to places hoping for full tuition or full rides for merit and she certainly has the scores to warrant a hope that she would have gotten scholars. In an ideal world we would all know how much we would get, down to the penny, before we apply. But we don’t. So we apply, wait and even sometimes appeal an award and ask for more.

I received my offer on valentine’s day. I still can’t figure out why i get in. I applied EA and got deferred.

My stats are okay but not excellent. 1980SAT 600on CReading…2250 SAT2 GPA3.8 Admitted to B school.

Sadly I didn’t get any scholarship notification. Can i send an email to ask the admission to give me some aid?

i was deffered EA and i still haven’t received an admission notification does anyone know why what is?

@anthonyk0828
because the greater majority of decisions haven’t been released yet

Any word on when the rest of the decisions will be released? Got deferred EA (along with everyone from my school) but NU is one of my top schools so I’m super anxious to hear from them.

Has anyone heard from Northeastern who applied RD? I’m also super anxious to hear from them.

I haven’t heard anything new, but to give some perspective, last year RD applicants were notified on March 21st. The EA notification this year was later than it has been in past years so the RD notification date from last year could mean nothing or they could stick with the exact same date. Who knows!

Wash U results are in. Anyone else apply there? Wish NEU would hurry up.

Does anyone know if rejections were notified at the same time acceptances were notified last year on March 21?
