Admission to UT Austin (instate, non top 10)

Hello, thanks for reading this.
I am applying to Texas by the end of the week and would like to get an idea about my chances.
I know I can at least get cap'd but I would like to get in the first time. Here is my info:

Major of choice: Computer Science
Second choice major: Don't know yet.

Instate.
Regular public high school
Ethnicity: Caucasian

Rank:102/577 (17%)
GPA: UW: 3.55 W: 4.091

SAT:
1740 (around a 1200 - 1250 for c.r. and math)
I retook it this month and definitely plan to see a higher score (at least an 1850 as I actually studied, did testmasters etc.)
So as another question, what would be some decent scores to see when I receive them based on my other stats?

Do I have no chances…? :(

I think you stand a good chance, Natural Sciences isn’t as competitive as some of the other colleges. But because you’re not top 10%, you’re going to be waiting for awhile to hear a decision. Why not wait another month - the fall deadline isn’t until December 1st, right? Give yourself some extra time to work on your essays, maybe get those SAT scores back, etc.

^ Thanks! Also, is there just not really any advantage to applying early?

The only advantage seems to be for the top 10% folks, who already know they are in as it is, but they can get confirmation of acceptance into their major sooner as well, and I think some people like knowing early in their senior year. I don’t think I’ve heard of anyone in the top 11-25 hearing early - you could call admissions and find out for sure, but from my understanding, your app will get put in with the rest of the non-10% folks and they won’t look at it until after the deadline has passed.

Thanks a lot for the info! It really helps and I appreciate it a bunch :D

Check with the UT board members too, there are several freshman applicants and parents over there, they might be able to give you more info. ;)
