You guys know how they have that AI thingy...i dont know if they have it at rice but anywho, i read somewhere that if you are like an AI 1,2 or 3 and applying to an ivy league school.."you have a long shot but who knows..you might warrant yourself out enough to get in"...[not exact]...so does this mean that test scores really dont count? If you stand out from the rest of the application pool..you can get in even if your scores are not top notch?

I read that one like two weeks ago and it has been bugging me ever since...if the answer is yes...yay my chance for rice has gone up..from 0.05 to 0.06!! yay for me!!

Bottome Line, if you have SAT II's less than 650 (and you're not a legacy, URM, athelete, or person who has cured cancer), you won't be accepted to Rice. Don't take my word for it, check the board.

I wouldn't say that. I think if you have a uniquely compelling story of overcoming obstacles, you will recieve due consideration in spite of SAT II scores below 650. Colleges don't throw out your application without reading your recommendations and essays, and I really believe that someone could get accepted with more modest testing if they showed tremendous drive, motivation, ability to overcome obstacles, and love of learning.

one score below 650 is not going to kill you. it's when you have 6 scores below 650 that it might be a little trying on the admissions officers. However, one can always save himself quite easily. For example, say for some reason you made a 550 on the sat ii math iic. However, you managed a 5 on both the Calculus BC and/or AB exam. Clearly, you have reached a standard in math taht few high school students reach and therefore, POSSIBLY your sat ii scores will be overlooked. This works for all subjects. There are ways around the "standard" sat test scores. All one needs is drive.

SATI>SATII. People with higher SATs get in at a higher rate than people with lower SATs. Low (1300ish) SAT scores will not keep you out of a school like Rice, but your chances are much, much lower than those of someone with a 1590. That's just the way it is.

cries....awww....my rice poo...when i visited rice every parent and prospective students though i was a rice student...cries and every student at rice seem to have thought that i was a student too [i know..kinda weird]....cries my rice poo...man i want to go there so bad that it is not even funny!!

wannabeariceowlgirl: i've been reading a bunch of your panicky posts. maybe it's not my place to say this (i don't even know you) but caaaaalm down. how much you stress in the next 6 weeks will have no effect whatsoever on the adcom's decision, so you might as well as go do something else in the meantime.
and no matter how much you want to go to rice, in the end it won't be the end of the world if you don't. remember, happiness is 90% attitude. :)

Yeah, I agree with the idiot. You should probably take a break from college websites and this message board- it seems like they're just stressing you out.

Actually, I think that CC may be one of the few things left that's keeping you sane, owlgirl. :D It gives you a place to express your emotions and fears about admissions, and allows you to connect with people just as passionate as you are about Rice.

lol...yeah...i have been sane and i have been facing "reality" from my cc people. yay! i can be on cc...lol i think i express too much emotions...oh well...cries smiles daydreams about rice hungry sleep...yup..all at the same time :P

While there are certainly encouraging individuals on this forum, which helps, I am sure plenty of others feel intimidated at the caliber of students who actually post their records; I always get an anxiety attack upon reading someone's record. However, I think the positive attitude and informative quality on this forum far outweigh my increase in blood pressure:)
