So i took my act last feb. and didn’t score the best (28). i want to go into mechanical engineering at cockerell school of engineering and learned recently that the avg. act score for mechanical engineering was a 31. Clearly im below the avg. and i am retaking so that is not something that i am still thinking over. the problem is, the deadline is dec.1 and my scores (w/writing) might be later than that. I have heard a few people say that they still accept them as long as you have made an application. So my question is, if my scores do come a week or so later will i still get accepted (assuming i get at least a 31 because i am really pushing right now)? I know i qualify easily for automatic admissions but that’s not a guarantee to major like the act score. Anybody have any experience? please share… Thank You in advance.
also new to the whole forum thing…
Test scores are accepted through December 31
For Cockrell UT uses your ACT math and combined english/writing score along with class rank to calculate your Academic Index. Not the overall score. Math carries twice the weighting in the AI formula as your english/writing score.
gettingschooled- thanks for the quick reply but just wondering how do you know?
k20903- Thank You very much. So i do need to take the act with writing right?
And speaking of writing, how should i write my essays over the new topics. Could i do a personal narrative (still showing family interaction as the prompt states) or would it have to be an informational type of essay. Most good and successful essays i have read so far are like stories so I’m not too sure… Thanks in advance.
Topics:
Essay A:
What was the environment in which you were raised? Describe your family, home, neighborhood, or community, and explain how it has shaped you as a person.
Essay B:
Most students have an identity, an interest, or a talent that defines them in an essential way. Tell us about yourself.
Essay C:
You’ve got a ticket in your hand – Where will you go? What will you do? What will happen when you get there?
Yes you have to take the ACT with writing.
Edit: Whoops, misread your question. Gettingschooled is right, they told us at my campus tour in October 2014.
Edit2: http://admissions.utexas.edu/apply/freshman-admission very bottom of the page under deadlines
SlimShadyLady-thank you… appreciate the help
By the way if anyone reading this is still unsure about score deadlines, I recently sent an email to UT Austin admissions center and they said that SCORES WILL BE ACCEPTED UP TO DECEMBER 31. HOWEVER, APPLICATIONS MUST BE IN BY DECEMBER 1.
Peace sign

Why are you bumping this? The answer to your question is on the admissions website and it appears you confirmed that answer over the phone with UT. What other information do you need?
