Admissions Appeal?

I just got denied admission for the fall 2010 semester at UT Austin. I applied as a transfer student(transferring from Mizzou) and I am wondering if trying to appeal the decision would be a good idea.

Here's my stat's

1st Choice: Radio-TV-Film(Communications)
2nd Choice: Psychology (Liberal Arts)

1st semester GPA at Mizzou: 3.6
2nd semester GPS at Mizzou: 3.0 (thanks to a difficult history class)

Outside of School: Photo Club, Film Club, Freshman Interest Group, also multiple national and state awards for film in high school, participation in theatre all 4 years of high school, have had a long term job, 115 community service hours..blahblah

I was thinking about getting a recommendation letter from my high school film teacher, sending in the DVD's of my projects that won awards and writing an essay on why I believe UT is a better fit for me. I also had some personal issues during my first year but still managed to make decent grades however, I am not sure if I should bring that up in my appeal

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I say go for it, you have nothing to lose and a lot to gain.

Dont waste your time, your GPA is too low.

Might as well try, but your GPA is a little low to transfer. Doesn’t Missouri have a really good broadcasting program though?

I know I mentioned this in the transfer thread, but I was admitted after appealing and I have a 3.25 overall. Speak with an admissions adviser and then go for it. It can’t hurt!

What is it about you that really separates you and makes you unique? What is it about you that can’t be described/captured by just your GPA/EC’s? What is it about you that UT would benefit from if you were accepted? That’s what I would write about. Honestly, people with higher GPA’s and more/better EC’s and awards are out there. So if that’s all you give them to look at, your chances of getting in are slim. You’ve got to show them what it is about you that could possibly enrich UT and make it better. They know that a GPA isn’t everything in every case, but you’ve got to show them why GPA isn’t everything for -your- case.

Yes, Missouri has a good broadcasting program but thats not what I’m interested in, UT has a film production program, Mizzou has journalism. I realize my gpa is a little low 2nd semester but thats where the personal issues come into play. “longhornhopeful7” thanks for the good advice, I definitely agree that is the angle I should come from. I’ve got nothing to lose I guess!
