Admissions Cycle & Test Scores

Hey everyone! I'm gonna retake my SAT on October 1st in hopes of a better score. FSU's first application deadline is October 17th, and I don't think my October SAT scores would come in that soon, so I probably wouldn't be able to submit them on time for consideration for the December 14th admissions decision. I emailed the admissions office about this and they won't take scores later than October 17th for the first admissions cycle.

Will sending my application in during the second admissions cycle affect my chances of admission in any way? The admissions office did tell me that it's best to apply before the October deadline for the most scholarship opportunities, but said nothing admissions-wise.

Thank you in advance :)

Here is the deal. If you have at least one SAT/ACT score on record, SUBMIT THE APPLICATION FOR THE EARLY DATE. They WILL consider October test scores if you have taken the test at least one before October. They WILL NOT consider October test scores for the December notification if they are the first scores you have. You application is not complete unless there is at least of set of scores. But they will update your file based on new scores. At least in years past, including 2010 this was the case.

You have a much better shot during the first cycle. And the worst that will happen is that you get deferred. There are no rejections the first go around.

As long as you have a score to report by the first deadline, your October scores will get looked at when they arrive in November, in time for the December notification.

This is assuming you have the minimum requirements for applying–500 on each of the subsections.

I think FSU will reject freshmen applicants the first decision round if the student’s application flat out looks too weak to improve and redeem by the second decision date. Do get your application in for first decision round like sunnyflorida suggested above for best chances.

As long as you have one set of test scores, they will accept October test scores when they become available (as said above).

As long as you already have some test scores, go ahead and apply for the first decision. The new scores can’t really hurt you, they can only help you, as FSU superscores your test scores to get the best possible overall score.

Yeah I totally agree, If you have scores, submit an application. The worst u can do is be deferred as stated before. I have friends who submitted crap test scores the first go-round and were deferred.

It all makes sense now, thanks everyone! Y’all are much friendlier than the people in the UC Irvine forum lol. :)

Is it super hard for an out of stater to get into FSU?

It’s harder than instate but if you have the credentials you can get in.

Hmm well I have a 3.5625 unweighted GPA on a 4.0 scale, and a 4.3938 weighted GPA on a 5.0 scale, and am in the top 17% of my class as of now. I might be able to move up a bit after this one semester, but not that much. I got an 1820 (600 reading, 630 math, 590 writing) on my SAT and hopefully I’ll crack a 2000 or something close to that in October.

I was the principal in my school’s band and symphony orchestra for two years until my parents made me quit, am in NHS, FNHS, and have a few other activities. I’ve gotten a good amount of awards and honors from flute/band related things, too.

Good Luck!!

I had very similar stats when I applied for FSU last year and I was accepted first round. My Unweighted was lower than yours at time of of application (3.3) but my weighted was at a 4.5. I was enrolled in all honors courses since freshman year with 2 AP Courses taken and completed by the time of my application with 3 AP courses in progress my senior year. I had a plethora of Band/Orchestra Extra Curricular, three years worth. I also played flute :-). I got a 28 on my ACT which is equivalent to a 1280 SAT w/o writing. Your scores are good but it never hurts to improve. Im in-state. Also I was in 3 honor societies as well a couple of other clubs. So I honestly say that you have a good chance of getting in; however, take my words with a grain of salt because I have no idea what the criteria for out-state students are. I’m inclined to believe they are the same as in-state criteria, but I could be wrong.

I’ll do my best to score something close to a 2000 on the SAT since I can only improve my GPA a little bit at this point. I sure hope I get into FSU since they have a great criminology program and most of what I’m reading about the school is what I’m looking for. :)

Granngrann, how early did you apply? Yay for flute players.

Thank you for your help everyone, it’s been a real help! Much more helpful than the admissions office.

I started my application the week it became available and finished it during the 2nd week of september.

Awesome! I’m almost done with my application right now except for the essay.

Thank you for the input y’all, it’s helped me tons!

One more question:

If my GPA is a 3.56, and the application only asks for the GPA to one decimal place, should I report it as a 3.5 or a 3.6?

So I just submitted the first part of my application (background and educational info), and forgot to put my household’s annual income under the optional questions section. :frowning: Think this will affect my application in any way? I got everything else filled out though.
