My D was also accepted into scholars, but put down honors as first choice. She was still happy with scholars but the reason she preferred honors is because she prefers the smaller discussion based classes over large lecture style classes and that is what honors offers (one reason she is apprehensive about OSU). I will say that I know some kids that have had a great experience with scholars and has given more of a community with team building activities etc. outside of classes than what some honors students have experienced, from feedback I’ve heard. The plus is that after first year, you can still get into honors but scholars is only option for first year, per my understanding.
Sounds like this is the latest in a long line of disappointments for you, @jsmith98. I’m sorry you don’t see the possibilities in scholars, which was my daughter’s first choice, and which is literally a once in a lifetime opportunity (@ssb2mom is correct - first year students fall term only). Show your abilities once you get to OSU, and you can still have honors, plus the extraordinary experiences available thru scholars - it is actually the best of both worlds…
@Chopinspiano @mom1girl @ssb2mom @SALSRL I’m sorry what I meant was that the honors program offers “w/ honors research distinction”. As a physics major, research is all that matters to me. If I don’t have golden research my application for graduate school will be “far less impressive”. I didn’t mean to offend anyone. I understand that the honors and scholars programs are of the same prestige in >90% majors but for Physics, you need the most research you can get. Obviously, which one is the better program depends on one’s major and under no circumstance is scholars a “consolation prize” as SALSRL put it.
@jakeybake: I was also accepted into Engineering. Is your son planning to attend OSU? Which major will he opt for?
Got rejected from Honors and only into scholars with a 3.82 and a 33 with tons of EC’s and a year done at OSU already. Pretty shocked.
Yes he is definitely attending. We are from OOS (MA) and it has always been his first choice. We are going out to see the campus the weekend of 3/26. He is going to study Computer Science & Engineering. He’s thrilled!
Anyone know when we would hear from Eminence?
Hi, my application status just changed from evaluation to deferred. Sorry, this is probably a dumb question, but could someone explain to me exactly what that means?
@turnkatt this means that your application will be pushed to the end of the list for re-evaluation as they want to check out the other candidates before admitting you. This usually means you are on the borderline or a bit above the borderline for admission and they wanna make sure you are not given a seat of a better candidate.
But dont get sad, they havent rejected you, you met their criteria so if there are seats left by the time they reach you again, you will most probably get in. This is sort of my own definition so please wait for more learned replies if you want a better explanation maybe.
@osuprof i had a few more doubts and im sure this time i should be asking an employee
- i am currently playing at the national level for the sport Badminton in my country and i tried doing some research and could not even find any kind of OSU badminton team. Is there an badminton team? if yes, can i join it without committing to it and just playing it maybe 2-3 times a week because my main agenda is the studies.
- Is sport payed? like do i have to pay every time i go to the court?
P.S. sorry for the huge number of questions and thanks in advance :*
If you don’t want as intense a time commitment you should look at OSU’s intramural offerings. Here’s the link for badminton: http://recsports.osu.edu/intramural-sports/fall-sports/badminton
Any Biology admits yet? I’ve been under evaluation forever. Is Biology that competitive that it would take months for their decision. I applied to Purdue at the exact same time as OSU, and that acceptance came in three weeks ago.
I applied to tOSU back in October but my application is still being “evaluated”. Is this normal? I mean, everything on my to do list has been completed ages ago. Is anyone else in the same situation?
@jakeybake: Ah good… I was accepted in Engineering for Electrical and Computer Engineering…but I still can’t decide about OSU…It seems a good research school though…
@reeeeeach if you applied before the November 1st deadline, you should have heard back by now. I would contact OSU Admissions to ask if there is anything holding up your decision.
Got the email at 22:04 CST on Friday informing me that I was admitted.
Pretty shocked because 1)I mean it’s 11PM in Ohio, 2) I did’t anticipate a decision until late March as indicated on the website. Really glad tho.

It seems that financial aid awards are now under your buckeyelink.
I only see the Cost of Attendance, EFC and Need listed. I don’t see anything under what was rewarded
Nevermind. I totally looked at that all wrong. My mind is playing tricks on me after getting bad news from another college.
