@sicc10 I posted this a day or so ago but it should apply to your confusion I hope. Ohio State looks at grades and ACT scores but they are also holistic, I had friends with higher ACT scores and grades than me not get in while I was accepted. I had a killer personal statement essay as well as tons of community service, APs and extra curriculars. I also worked. With that being said remember the holistic 10 point rating system they use at OSU which looks at the applicant as a whole not just the stats. I know that on this site you see a lot of high stats but if you are in the top 25% percent of your class there is hope. I do not however know anyone who has gotten in that is not in the top 25%.
Accepted finally!!!
Out state
Applied 10/31
26 act
4.0 uw 4.63 w
9/302 rank
Lots of extra curriculum

It does seem odd that everyone is receiving the same decision so far today. Iâd expect a little variety, as has been the case with the previous waves. We are still waiting.
Daughter was Deferred
Deferred 1/26
Out of State
31 ACT
4.2 gpa
Rank- top 20
3 sport athlete, 2 sport captain
All honors and AP classes, student government, community service and several other extra curricular activities.
Daughter was deferred. They waited until the last wave to tell her she was deferred. Seems like a lot of kids were deferred in this round.
Deferred 1/26 too
In state
Class rank 10/390
4.2 GPA
28 ACT
NHS, AP Scholar, community service
2 sport varsity athlete, 2 yr captain, etc
So weird that 1) so few people posted their decision and 2) only one student posted an acceptance. My son was deferred at OSU and accepted at Maryland tonight (Scholars).
Good luck to all the students. Hang in there, those of you who didnât get the news you were hoping for today.
Two of my children applied (twins). One was accepted and one was deferred. We are out of state but Iâm an alumna of tOSU. I wondered if they consider the major when applying. For example, if one of my daughters is interested in theater, do they limit how many applicants they accept who are interested in that degree. Do they expect theater majors to have the same math score as engineering majors? When we visited Penn State, they said they have different requirements for each college within the university.

Theater major
Hoping my other daughter is accepted - the email said she should hear by the end of March.
My D18 is still waitingâŠportal still says Evaluation.
Is it possible that OSU just didnât get to all their applicants so they just deferred the ones they didnât get to? The reason I ask is because my application was âIn processingâ for months and changed to deferred overnight with no status change of âUnder evaluationâ in between
^ thatâs my guess, too
Are deferred applicants still eligible to receive merit based scholarships? If theyâre not and OSU really just deferred everyone they didnât get to, they really just screwed over a lot of people.
Iâm sure they will still be considered for merit, since even those that apply after Nov. 1 are. But, as they build the class and hand out scholarships, there are fewer dollars toward the end. Those that met the deadline are prioritized for evaluation. My next one through will be applying when the common app opens, not October! Lesson learned.
@BuckeyeMWDSG where did you find that applicants after the early action deadline are considered for merit scholarships? The only thing that I could find on the OSU website was that you will automatically be considered for merit scholarships if you apply by the early action deadline.
I did find it odd that my son would be eligible for a good amount of scholarships but he wasnât even accepted during Early Action decisions. Counting my lucky stars that, for him, I think itâs a nonissue because I think he is focused on his other three colleges. Probably due wholly to this winterâs weather (his brother is a freshman at OSU and is having a great experience there. After visiting some schools down south in the last few months I get the impression that the younger son would prefer less winter weather vs more).
I wouldnât generally see a lot of reasons to call the admission office after decisions are released (unless you didnât get a decision at all), but this concern (which MAY be unfounded, these packages may have really been reviewed and deemed appropriate for deferral), particularly the scholarship part, seems to rise to the level of âworth calling aboutâ.
Nicole
I read somewhere that applicants meeting the EA deadline receive consideration âfor most scholarshipsâ I read that as not all scholarships are necessarily tied to meeting that EA deadline, though the best chances to receive the maximum merit are for those that meet the EA deadline and some competitive full ride scholarship applicants must submit all materials by EA.

still no decision for me. i applied 11/2 (i know itâs a day late for early action, but was hopeful that itâs early enough)

@misspat17, the deadline was not fluid. You are going to receive a decision with the rest of the RD students. Your frustration is unfounded considering that you didnât apply in time to receive a decision before the end of March. But your stats look great, so best of luck to you!
