I'm an out of state junior who hopes to apply to UT as early as possible this summer. Would it make a huge difference in time if I send my completed application halfway through September versus at the beginning of August?

You will be treated separately from residents. So early application may not provide any advantage. Mainelonghorn may have more input on this issue.

It’s my understanding that it won’t matter when you apply. My son didn’t hear until the spring. It was a long wait! He did get accepted into his first choice, Biomedical Engineering, which was a pleasant surprise. His stats were strong, but not top, top. It goes to show that you should always take a shot at what you really want. If he hadn’t gotten BME, he probably would have gone to a different school.

Good luck, Texashopeful! My son really likes UT. Being from the northeast, he has found Texans to be very welcoming.

From working with the admissions office on out-of-state student affairs, I can tell you that you shouldn’t expect to hear from UT until late February at the earliest. There are some exceptions, but your application would have to be absolutely outstanding (or you’d have to be an athlete).

MaineLonghorn, when did your son apply?

Texashopeful, I think in early November. He didn’t hurry, since they told him it wouldn’t matter when he applied. The only benefit to applying earlier would have been getting a higher priority for housing. His first choice was a Whitis FIG, and he didn’t get it.
