Admissions Question

No news yet, we’re still waiting! Hopefully ds will hear soon.

Ten weeks is a long wait (especially when their website says 4-5 weeks). I wonder if they had more applicants this year.

Great news idahomom on the scholarship! Redlands seems to be really good about scholarship money!

Hi, guys!

I don’t post on CC often, but today my admissions status updated to say:

“We are pleased to have completed an initial review of your application. Currently your application is on hold. The admissions committee would like to view an updated transcript once the current grading period is complete.”

What do you suppose this means? I’m a strong student (I’m taking 8 AP classes this year, and doing pretty well in all of them) and my extracurriculars are outstanding. My essays were also very strong; I had my two AP English teachers edit them.

Did anyone else get this message? :C

Hi Serentic-- it sounds like you have great credentials so not sure why you would have that message. When did you submit your application? Maybe if it was after a certain date they ask for the first semester grades? I would say send the transcript as soon as it is available

Idahomom - I did send it rather late - they received it December 17th, so maybe that’s it. We’ll have to wait and see. Thanks for responding. c:

Congrats idahomom! I know it has been a wait to hear!
MLM–hoping you hear soon.
Serentic–your records sounds great and I bet it came down to application date. My senior applied in early November and was accepted in early January with merit money and a lesser AP record, so my guess that is it. When your counselor submits the Mid-year report with your fall grades, my guess is you will go through review very well. My senior heard in 8 working weeks, so I would think, once they get your Mid-year Report, it might be a bit to hear back. Maybe call and check on status a couple of weeks after you see on the Common App that the Mid-year Report has been downloaded by the college? Good luck! You are a strong student!

Thanks Momofcasenior! I think they should leave out the 4 week estimate of when you will hear-- that way I wouldn’t have been quite so anxious.

Does anyone know how the admitted student day is set up? I saw the date (April 6) but I couldn’t find a list of activities. I’m sure it will be up on the website eventually but I want to start checking flights early Feb.When DS visited the first time he didn’t get a chance to talk to anyone in the Government dept so he would like to do that if he makes a second visit

Any news yet MLM?

No news yet! It’s been a loooong time!

Yes you have been waiting a really long time. I wonder if they have more applications than usual or maybe not as many admission people? Is your S worrying about it?

He was very concerned, then decided to give it two more weeks before he contacts Redlands admission office. Two weeks will be up this weekend. The mail already came today…and nothing yet.

I’m going to nag ds to check his admission status online tonight. I wonder if he got a similar message as Serentic.

It didn’t take that long for us to hear, but DD was not a Johnson applicant. We too thought it was a rejection letter when it came! We applied after the early ap deadline, but thought she might get some merit aid. Nada. The school is a top choice of my daighter’s, but quite frankly she got scholarship elsewhere, as well as other sdhools being less costly. May be crossing the school off our list…

MLM-- any change on the status? I called last week after getting an odd reply to email question about Johnston status. The admissions people were very nice and helpful-- there had been some kind of mix-up with his Johnston status, but they got everything straightened out and said DS should hear soon. So if your S is still waiting and you or he decides to call I think they will be helpful. I called since it is difficult for DS to call in the day when admissions is open

Bella-- sorry about merit $$. The whole merit aid thing is very hard to predict at many schools I think. One school that to me is equivalent to Redlands (same % accepted, almost identical average gpa and SAT) gave DS nothing. I even had him write an email asking if they might reconsider and they basically said no. I think that one is off our list so I understand your choice. I can’t see paying almost $20k per year more for a close to equivalent school

Idahomom, Ds’s application has been complete since December 10th, so I called Redlands today for my son and talked to someone in admissions. She was very nice, checked his application and said everything looks like it’s complete. The application is still in the review process, and all applicants will be notified by March 31!!

So, feeling kind of frustrated with this.

Yes I understand-- It seems like looking back at previous years there weren’t so many problems/delays. I wonder if they are getting a lot more applications or if they have all new admission people? They should really take out the rolling admissions/should hear in 4-5 weeks statement and just say upfront that everyone will hear by March 31st.

I have been delaying making flight reservations for the Accepted student day in April because DS wanted to see if he was admitted to Johnston. Now the flight has shot up $200 per person. So he might not be going to the accepted student day at all–
