Son received the congratulations and welcome magnet today. Letter highlights how he is among a select group to be admitted to Global Communities…however, the letter says nothing about not being accepted to Smith…I think this is very odd. The only way we think we know this is bc of a small notation at the bottom of the on-line notification…can anybody weigh in in this!? If you are accepted to Smith does your letter say it?? I think this should be made perfectly clear in the mailing and it is nowhere to be found…on this letter alone, he would be registering for the admitted students day…any night would be very helpful.
As long as the online notification specified Smith as your advising college, then he was admitted to Smith also. Assuming it works like engineering…Since it is a LEP, Smith does its own, separate admissions review once students are admitted to the university and will therefore send a separate letter of admission that should arrive shortly.
The first letter you received is from the admissions committee from the university itself and they are also the ones that determine the invites to the living learning programs like Global Communities, so that’s why that is included on this first letter. @mdhelp, please correct me if I am wrong.

@cbpmom just as @maryversity said, if admitted to Smith, that is a different letter. When you looked at the online decision, at the very bottom of the letter it states what the advising college is. In your son’s case cbpmom, it will say either Smith or Letters and Sciences.
@maryversity and @terpmom7, Thanks for being so helpful so many times. If not for CC, we would be truly perplexed by UMD’s decision communications. Son’s online letter indicates Smith advising, so we assumed he was in. But then I was a little alarmed when mail package said nothing about Smith. But I guess it’s just poor coordination among University and LEP colleges and Smith will eventually send an acceptance letter. Honestly, I don’t know how people who don’t read CC figure it all out!
