Hello,
I'm a junior in high-school I have been looking at Marist college for quite some time now and it would mean a lot to me if I could get in, the school seems perfect for me. Right now I take four ap classes and the rest of my classes are honors, including 4 years of French, I'm currently at a 3.5 GPA, and I have yet taken the SAT's. I currently volunteer frequently for a program called build-on to help support the children in Africa as well supporting my community in Connecticut, I'm also working as a tutor for kids between the ages of 6-12 in the areas of math as well as English. Could you tell me my chances of entering Marist next year? I would like to study economics. Also, what are the requirements to visit the campus?

Sounds like you have good stats for Marist. You can easily arrange for a campus tour and information session. Check their website and find a date that works with your schedule. Good luck.

Your GPA looks good, and you need the honors and AP classes. I’d say shoot for at least an 1800-1850 SAT and you’ll be in good shape. Your community service is very good. Marist looks for student involvement. I believe you earn points on campus for being involved in different activities and your point totals are used in selecting your dorms etc.

Marist is one of the few colleges we visited that does not have an online form to arrange a visit. You have to call the Admissions office directly. They’ll email you an invitation and parking permit for the day. We visited twice, once as a junior and again this fall as a senior.

The campus is absolutely beautiful, the facilites are great. It was one of my favorite colleges - that said my daughter chose to not even apply there. She has all the requisites - GPA, good SAT’s, community service, EC’s etc. She does not like the area around Poughkeepsie and also thought there were better places for her to go for her major. We do know 3 students that are attending now that absolutely love it. Definitely visit, well worth it, but also check out the town and make sure it’s the right school if you want to major in Economics. Good luck.

Academically, you have the GPA that most Marist students come in with. Remember that you don’t need to send your SATs to Marist, so don’t stress those too much. And your involvement in school and community service shows that you’re a well-rounded student, and that definitely helps.
So on paper, you’re ideal, but you HAVE to show the admissions office how badly you want to go here. Go on a tour, sign up for a shadow day, stay for an overnight, send them a letter, get them to remember your name! They are very selective when it comes to the kind of students they accept, it sounds to me like you would be a good fit, so make sure they know you want it
You seem to have very good grades and are in good academic standing. I believe your GPA and involvement will help to get you into Marist. Remember you don’t need to submit your SAT scores if you don’t want to.
