Admissions

I have a couple of question about admissions. First, If i got into SLS does that mean that I have allready started the real application and will I get paperwork from West Point sone. After the canidate questionare how much other paperwork must be filled out. Also is it too soon to start asking for the paperwork for the congressional nominations. Thanks for the help.

Acceptance (or rather, applying) to SLS starts your official candidate file. In your acceptance letter there should be a link on the first page to your candidate website. Should be something like "cand.admissions.usma.edu" or something. That is the candidate login site. On that site there should be a link on the left that says "nomination information." Click it and there will be document links of printable letters to your MOC. Print them out, send them off to the address on the letterhead.

I did that on March 1 and already recieved one application for nomination from 1 MOC. Not too early. Just right :p

Oh and there is a lot of paperwork to be filled out when all is said and done... but a lot of it cannot be done for a while, until you officially can apply. Right now you and I are in the pre-application phase. We have files open, but the applications are not yet available. However, just know that we will be the first to recieve them when they do start sending them off.

Thanks for the info. By the way which session of SLS are you going to?

To give you an idea of the admissions timeframe, USMA sent out the application packages in early August last year.

While I'm reluctant to tell anyone it's too early to fill out paperwork, my personal recommendation would be to wait until your junior year grades are finalized before filling out the nomination paperwork. Check with your senators and rep, but most of the members of congress have application due dates in October or early November. Most will require recommendation letters, academic transcript and an academic recommendation form from your school.

Check the MOC's website. Many have all the information and forms available online.

Good luck and thanks for considering a career as a military officer in our armed forces.

How early do you have to send everything back in to get an LOA. Or can you get an LOA before all the paperwork is in. What is the basis for LOA's and how many are given. THanks

I don't think you have to fill out a PCQ if you've already been accepted to SLS since that already starts your file.

Also do you all think I should still print out the nomination application request letter on my USMA Candidate resource page even though I've already printed the actual applications off my MOC websites? and I've already been to one MOC's office and personally picked up the packet?

I've got everything pretty well in order and should have the 3 letters of recommendation within the next 2 weeks I imagine. Does it really matter that we get the nomination apps in this early? We all get the real applications at the same time anyways and my Congressman said they don't care how early the app is cause they don't even look at them till Oct 1. i thought about waiting till I got back SLS(session B) to fill it all out so I could reflect about my experience there in my essays.

If you already have the applications then of course you don't need to send a letter requesting one! Like you tn I am already requesting LOR from my teachers for the nominations. I would say send in what you can for the noms as early as you can to officially get yourself on the record and keep adding to your file as new things become available (ie final Junior transcript).

That's the impression I got from my senator anyway. If you want to send the essay after SLS that's fine! Just so long as the app is completed before the deadline its fine, though obviously if you're shooting for appointment way early then you want to get it in as soon as possible, per your discernment.

Does anyone know what the Point system they use for admissions is? I have heard numerous things such as SLS is worth 400 points which is 20% of the minimum.

"How early do you have to send everything back in to get an LOA. Or can you get an LOA before all the paperwork is in."
barce11: WP starts giving out LOAs in mid July - before the official application is even mailed out (you must have filled out a precandidate questionaire). Make sure you send in your six semester transcript as soon as you get it.
Good luck!
PS. there is a wealth of information on LOAs on this site if you do a search

After a certain date the admissions commitee gets together and starts reviewing applications, i think every tuesday or something. Each candidate is given a score and if their score is above a certain number they get an LOA. As time passes the minimum score for an LOA increases. So, my advice is to get all your stuff in ASAP.

Where did it say to send in sixth semester grades? And are we supposed to send them SAT and ACT results as soon as we get them or wait for the application.

You would normally send in your six semester grades with your application but WP needs it to consider you for an early LOA, so send it in as soon as you have it. Make sure that your GPA and Class rank are on your transcript. Yes, send in your ACT and SAT results as soon as you have them as well.
