From our small school 3 have applied to UCSD. All were accepted and are going to Admit Day on April 4th. We are all in different colleges so won't be able to hang out together much on the day itself. It would be fun to meet for dinner the day before. If it must be fast food so be it, as I do not want to count heads, make reservations or worry about exact times.
Any suggestions? Even better would be a cafeteria on campus open to the public, easy to find and with decent food and hours. It does not have to be open until 1am, but maybe 8 or 9pm.
Thanks!

i heard CHIPOTLE was nearby! yeee the best burritos ever. not authentic but really good.
hmm i been to ucsd once over the summer so i wouldnt know much but i THINK you have to have dinning dollars if you want to eat at the dinning halls/cafeteria… hmm you can try the price center on campus… but they have the usual burger king and such

my recomendation is CHIPOTLE! its a 3 mins car ride… 20 min walk from SD…supposedly

Price Center on campus has good food. There’s a sushi place that’s really good (called Shogun). There’s also Indian and Greek food, Panda Express, Subway, Rubio’s, Burger King etc.

Off-campus, there’s La Jolla Village Square that’s only like a 5 min car ride from campus. There’s California Pizza Kitchen, Chipotle, Island’s, Crouton’s (there’s one on campus too, but it closes early on Fridays), and a bunch of other stuff.

There’s plenty to choose.

yea theres alot of places to dine by ralphs go check it out on google maps

If you’re planning to stay in the area, you can always get started on the college student life and visit Red Robin at the UTC mall (5 mins drive from campus) and pig out on their unlimited fries It also gives you a chance to scope out the mall, which is a godsend for last-minute gifts.

As for outside the immediate UCSD area, I really recommend Spice & Rice (Thai) in downtown La Jolla (~15 min drive on local roads). Plus afterward you can walk around Prospect Street to ogle all the expensive shops, grab gelato or a caramel apple from the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, then go look at the baby seals at the Children’s Pool. Actually, all the restaurants in that area are really good – some just pricier than others.

so im from the bay and im heading to admit day on friday afternoon…

is there an inn or hotel close by where i can stay at?

it would be much cheaper just to crash with someone you know … current student, friend-of-a-friend, etc?

Dining halls are open to the public. You can pay with cash or credit card if you dont have any dining dollars.

@astrina thanks for the link! but bahaha my mom wants to come down with me to check out the campus since she never been there and i have… so i dont think my friends at SD would want me and my mom housing with them for a night :P

Chipotle? Really?? If SD is known for anything foodwise it’s their deliciously authentic Mexican food on every corner, get outta here with your “best burrito ever” nonsense. You shall learn in due time. If you want to get started on your college student life early, head down to El Cotixan’s on Genesee at 3am while under the influence.

I prefer Lolita’s before 10pm

Yeah, El Cotixan’s is good…or Roberto’s (Rigaberto’s) in Miramar. Mmm pollo asada fries.

Dude… I vote Sammy’s. Off campus in the Costa Verde shopping complex, OR in downtown La Jolla. It’s like a sit down restaurant but it’s delicious.

I’ll second Sammy’s. I was just going off the whole “college experience” feel he was going for. There’s nothing more UCSD than showing up intoxicated at Roberto’s at 3am.

^HAHA been there, done that. Pretty sure everyone has. :)

Spice and Rice is delicious.

Agreed. Thai in SD is actually pretty good (Spice and Rice in LA, Thai House on Convoy, and Amarin Thai in Hillcrest)

Yum. Too bad it’s a short trip. I’ll come back and try them all. No kidding, this thread is a keeper.

You can scrap this thread and just Yelp everything

^I just discovered yelp and it’s AMAZING!!! I’ve been obsessively looking up anything I can possibly think of. They even rate colleges!
