First of all Congrats on getting the big envelope!

I hope all of you will attend Admit Weekend this April. I know (since we've been planning for your arrival since October) that it will be a rewarding experience.

I also remember what it's like to be a ProFro, as I am only a sophomore at Stanford (Engineers holler at me with your questions too). So please direct any questions you have about admit weekend to us directly or ask me on this forum. You can also use AIM or facebook to talk to me whenever. The sn is the same.

You can read more about me on admit.stanford.edu

I'm arielle!

Thanks guys and I hope to hear from you soon

(Btw it's finals week at Stanford but I don't have any so I'll be bored for the next week or so. Holler)

How were the admit weekend travel grants parceled out? Is it possible to call the admissions/finaid office and inquire about getting one?

This might sound a little bit picky on my part, but with my family current situation, money is tight and a travel grant will probably be the difference between going to Stanford Admit Weekend (my first choice) and another weekend (I've been admitted to two other schools that are offering free travel to their admit weekends, which also run 4/20-24).

Hi Arielle! Thanx for doing this.
I was just wondering how often we'd be able to drop in on real classes and get a taste of that Stanfordian education! I'm horribly deprived from the SUNet system (my mom won't let me mail the reply card until I get the whole FA package - hence: no acess) so I can't access Axess and get the course catalogs and stuff, so is there a link somewhere so I can find courses to eavesdrop in while i'm there?
Also, to what extent will the Profros be able to party with the uppers? I'm not asking for Exotic Erotic or anything, but it'd be really interesting to just check out the night life. Thanks!

The website isn't down. It just won't be up until April 1st with a very cool site that is interactive and will allow you to sign up online for admit weekend and such

You can use axess to look at classes without an SUID.

But during AW you can go to as many or as few classes as you'd like. I suggest you look at an IHUM class or a PWR class since you definitely have to take those during your frosh year. But let me know what you're interested in and I can recommend some others. Also let your HoHos (house hosts) and RoHos (room hosts) know what you're interested in and they can personally escort you to some classes.

during admit weekend there will be plenty of pro fro parties but on the whole the campus is DRY. you will not experience real college parties until NSO or later.

The best preview however is the BROC party on friday. Not only is it one of the best parties of the year, but it's also a great representation of a certain type of party that goes on minus alcohol (there's never any alcohol at these parties anyway)

So we match you guys based on preferences you filled out on the form. But you must remember that your RoHo might not be the most enthusiastic person on the planet (midterms are starting up around AW). The person who is really supposed to be there for you is the HoHo more than the RoHo.

I didn't have a great RoHo during my AW but I'm the type to go out and figure out the campus by myself. I met a lot of people that way and I had a good time on the whole.

The weekend is aimed for you to assess whether Stanford is a good match for your personality and for you all to meet each other. My suggestion is to not spend too much time with your RoHo unless you feel an unusual connection with them. Get out and explore Stanford with your other ProFros and HoHos!

You'll get a handbook in the mail with the other activities soon. Probably within a week. There are too many activities to list and it depends on where you're placed.

I know because my son really wants to do SLE. He's actually having to be careful not to get too many college credit hours, because he doesn't want to lose freshman applicant status.

I imagine your son's number of credit hours aren't too much of a problem if he's not enrolled in a degree program.
Viz SLE - I encourage him to come to the info session at Admit weekend and ask questions, in addition to talking to current and former SLE students (such as myself...)

Do you happen to know exact day the packets will/were mailed out? (I'm wondering if I will get it before I leave for Spring Break - not that it matters, I'm just excited!)

Nope, once he hits the credit limit, he'd have to apply as a transfer. Because he's been taking college courses since he was a freshman in high school, it's added up. I spoke with admissions about it when we realized it was becoming a problem.

Trin, is just a matter of how many credits one wishes to transfer over to Stanford that would qualify one as a transfer student? I will have completed 78 semester credits (equivalent to 117 quarter credits), and I believe I'm still considered a freshman. I had spoken to Stanford about a year ago regarding this issue, and the lady in admissions replied, "Go ahead and take as many college courses as you'd like." I'd be interested in hearing what they told you, though. I don't want any surprises when I try to register for SLE!

But I'm told that they can make exceptions and stuff. YOu know, my advice is to be up front with admissions, because they make the decisions, right?
