For students at Brown, or those who were accepted and didn’t go, when is admit weekend and what was it like? Was it enjoyable?

What is the max/min/average number of classes a student takes per semester? Also, would it be weird for a freshman to take Linear Algebra? I want to continue my math sequence and am in Multi this year but am wondering if I’ll be in a class with like all older kids when I’m settling into things first semester and want to meet new kids.

ADOCH was an awesome experience for me and I've been a part of keeping it up and running from the Brown side since I've been here (admittedly through the Chem dept. and not too much through the Bruin Club).

A fair number of students also have MV in high school-- not enough, but a fair number. Most of the kids in Linear will be sophomores, however. Average course load at Brown is 4. You can take 5 without any special permission. 3 is the minimum to be considered full time. Remember, we don't have credits, but Brown classes transfer as 4 credit courses and are designed to be that time consuming.

is ADOCH only for RD admits?

It was only for RD admits last year; don't know if they've announced their policy this year, but I wouldn't be surprised if there will be no change.

Yeah, as of last year it's for RD admits only. The event has just gotten too large to accommodate ED students.

I can confirm this year we're repeating the RD only policy. If you want to stay at a hotel or something there will be pretty much no difference if you just hang out and go to ADOCH events anyway.

Modestmelody--
I'm an ED admit; I just want to clarify whether, if I were to show up in Providence during ADOCH weeking and find my own lodging, I be able to participate fully in ADOCH or if there are certain events where we have to prove we're RD acceptees (name badges, an official registration, etc.).

I'll get back to you on that, mochabear.

To be honest, when I was here for ADOCH, I don't really remember using badges or anything like that at any point...

There is a package that tells you what's going on that you won't get and you won't get housing like I said, but I am not sure how the rest works. To be quite honest, when I did ADOCH, it was 95% free roaming time to do what you want and pop in and out of whatever was going on so I don't really think it's a big deal to just be here and wander around campus during those fun two days. Might be even nicer if you stick around for Spring Weekend instead... things are pretty rowdy and fun on campus. Oddly enough, I don't think we've announced the bands yet. It seems kind of late for us to not know who's playing...

They just announced them tonight!

Nas, Of Montreal, Santigold, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Toubab Krewe, and a local band called Deer Tick.

When I came for ADOCH last spring, I met a few ED kids. They were all able to participate in everything just fine.
