Admittance possibility for UNC Chapel Hill?

I am currently a junior and I have been researching college options. I want to go into business and UNC is a top choice of mine. I am a white male and from out of state. Here is some information about my high school career:
- Spanish Club 4 years
- S.W.A.T.S 3 years
- Model UN 3 years
- Newspaper editor 1 year
- Key Club 4 years (Treasurer for 2 yrs)
- Co-Founder of Table Tennis (2 yrs)
- Link Crew 1 year
- Volunteer at local kids club and nature center
- Varsity Tennis player 6 years (captain 1 yr)
- Intramural Basketball (4 yrs.)

ACT as of now is a 26, which I know is low, but I have only taken it once and plan on taking it at least two more times. I am also going to be taking the SAT a couple of times but have not done so yet.

GPA after my junior year will be between 3.83-3.86
Weighted GPA will be 4.53-4.57 depending on my 2nd semester

Please let me know my chances of getting into UNC! I would greatly appreciate any feedback so please comment! I know my ACT is low but I expect to at least have it to a 28 after taking it two more times so I hope that doesn't hurt my chances too much! Thanks and please comment! :)

trusty - I have learned to never say never. UNC is a school that truly looks at the whole picture but even with that said you may want to look at the Acceptance threads on this website. Most OOS had higher ACT test scores. My advice to you would be to study for either the ACT or SAT and keep taking the one you are more comfortable with. Also, think about what would make you interesting for your essays and truly stand out to Admissions. Finally think about someone who can give you a rec. that explains all your wonderful qualities. Good Luck to you, you have worked hard and I’m sure you will find that perfect fit for you.

In state, you would probably be in. OOS, you honestly can never tell. But you have a good chance, especially if you up your ACT and get good SAT scores. The only thing that’s really missing is more major leadership positions. But your EC’s are great - maybe in your essays highlight your involvement in specific ones and talk about leadership roles you have had that were not necessarily president of a club or something like that.

Your ACT is a bit low, but you definitely have a chance! My (white) friend got in out of state, and she had around an 1800 SAT. However, her extracurriculars were stellar, and she had a lot of leadership positions. So I’d say to focus on your EC’s and make sure your application reflects dedication to the community, initiative, and all that =)

Good extra curriculars, good GPA. Write effective essays and take the SAT seriously and you have a very good shot.

Also, designate that you’re an aspiring business major in your application. You won’t regret it.

Beatdook - I was just accepted and designated myself as an aspiring business major - what did you mean by that last statement? Thanks

I suggest you plan to have your ACT in the 30s since you’re OOS. Your EC’s are great but they can’t substitute strong test scores. Also, an SAT over 2000 would be awesome. I’m not saying that scores below this would hurt your chances, just that having scores on the higher end are a definite boost. I personally loved Kaplan’s sat and act strategy books for “super busy students.”
GPA is high, so a rigorous senior schedule will round out your application nicely.
