Admitted, curious about "Request Major Change"

I was accepted to UT last Friday, and am officially attending the university next year. I noticed on the MyStatus today a link indicating that admitted applicants are allowed to request a major change BEFORE they attend school in the fall, starting April 1st. I was under the impression that only internal transfers in Spring 2017 are allowed. Could anyone shed light on this? I am interested in transferring into RTF in Communications next year. Is this “Request Major Change” a means of doing so without internal transfer? Thanks in advance

What school are you in right now? RTF is kind of competitive

oops sorry forgot to mention- I’m in the writing major in COLA. I have a lot of experience with screenwriting/filmmaking in high school and my app addressed that aswell

eyyyy rhetoric/writing major, here, sweet! Anyway, COLA to moody probably won’t be automatic, but you won’t know unless you contact your advisor.

What about electrical engineering changing to geology? I’m really more interested in geology .

Search the forum for threads on this last year. It looks like changing within the same college is easier than between colleges. Majors that were competitive at admission will be harder to get into. Good luck but don’t count on it.

@SlimShadyLady wooooo cool same major! do you know how soon I can get an advisor by any chance? does that happen at orientation?

@defense360 you have to meet with one at orientation to register for classes and I’m
not sure if you’re assigned one before that. If I were you, I would just call admissions or Moody’s dean office and explain your situation and see what’s possible. Good luck and I look forward to seeing you on the forty acres!!
