Admitted international student visit costs

Hi everyone!

I'm an international student from Australia applying for "upper-tier" colleges in the USA.
I can't really afford to go and check out the colleges that I'm applying to beforehand, so I'm just going to apply broadly and then visit the colleges I'm accepted to.
I'm not entirely sure that I can even pay for that so I was wondering if you know of any colleges that pay for the flights and accommodation of accepted students so they can visit their campuses.

Thanks for your help :)

You are applying to undergraduate degree programs?

I have never heard of a college paying for the visit of an international student, much less international financial aid recipients. (If the cost of a visit is prohibitive, I assume you’re not in a position to pay 4 x $60,000?) With admission rates for international students being as low as 2%, there’s plenty of other students waiting in line if you don’t want the spot that you are offered.

Graduate programs, on the other hand, might subsidize a visit. Several of my PhD programs offered me $300 towards the cost of airfare and a room for 1-2 nights.

My friend who is now at Harvard got a full paid trip for an interview at Richmond. I think it depends on if they really. really. want you there

On that note actually, I’ve been worrying a bit about international financial aid.
If I initially get a bad financial aid offer, is there a chance that colleges would raise it if they want me to go there? Top colleges like Harvard don’t really need to worry about tuition costs anyway…

You can send a letter of reevaluation, but it depends on the college if they feel they want to supplement your aid. Or if you get say $40000 from college A and college B offers you $50000, but you really want to go to college A, you can ask if they can match the offer from college B
