@nanana15 my son also had a 28 on his ACT (and not great GPA). Also OOS (WI). Applied toward the end of August have not heard back. He’s hoping that his sharp upward trend in grades and all his ECs will help his chances, but he’s realistic and knows that the odds are probably against him.
@nanana15 July? You win! My S’s application was compete in the beginning of September and has heard nothing. He has a 35 ACT, OOS, and applied for computer science in COE. He also has the upward trend thing but his overall class rank is pretty rough (37%, 3.6u) so I think that is really against him and what is holding things up while they wait to see who else applied.
@s16s18s21s25 I’d be shocked if a 35 ACT didn’t get into UMN. He’s for sure in CLA at the very least because my D1 had lower stats (33 ACT/3.4 GPA) and was admitted to CLA last year in Oct. I still think he’s got a shot at CSE.
D2 is still waiting to hear and she applied 8/20 to CLA. 1960 SAT, class rank in top third, GPA 3.64 (uw). In-state. Fortunately, she has already been admitted to her top three choices so UMN isn’t even on her radar at this time.
@Mamelot Same here…S isn’t thinking about it since he’s gotten in a few other schools…but it’s like waiting for the other shoe to drop, so I diligently check every day…
I am an International student. I applied on November 10th, when should I expect my decision to come out? Been staring he tracker at a daily basis and the status just keeps the same “we have received your application by the priority deadline etc etc.”
Applied to Carlson for Finance on October 20th (36 ACT, 4.5 weighted), admitted November 2nd, admitted into the honors college on the 10th.
I received some vague promise of a national merit scholarship, but besides that I haven’t heard much. Has anyone received confirmation of some scholarship with the exact value attached?
What happens if you plan on minoring in a degree that is different from the college you’ve been admitted into it?
@Aesirian I think you are supposed to let them know if you are NMF. There should be scholarship money for those who designate UNM as first choice school but I don’t know the details beyond that. Here is the link:
@TotallyTrudy really? They had called me about 3 times and I expressed enthusiasm for the school as I had definitely done my homework. But somehow, one of the times, I accidentally said the school was a safety. Would this cause scholarships to not be gifted to me?
@jackisawesome What I said is just an assumption. I wouldn’t have said the school is my safety but it should be fine if you’re expressing interest. Maybe email your counselor a couple questions and keep your name out there. Your safety school can still be your first choice.
Just found out today! Accepted to CLA, 2370 SAT with 3.7 UW GPA. Out-of-state (NJ) but love what I see at Minnesota!!
I got my acceptance today to CLA for history. It’s my first one, so I’m relieved to be going to college. I have a 3.3 GPA and I got a 32 on the ACT. I’m out of state (FL) and I have yet to hear from Rutgers, UMass, UConn, U of Vermont, Boston U, or Fordham, and I haven’t gotten any denials. I have not visited UMN and I sort of applied on a whim, but I’m glad I got in. When will I hear about financial aid?
@CollegeCO2020 Congrats! When did you apply? I applied Nov. 7th and haven’t gotten a decision yet. Super impatient
If you haven’t got accepted yet should you send in your 1st semester grades of senior year?
Accepted today! CLA
I applied in October.
OOS - California
Major - Economics
SAT/ACT: 800 (CR) 720 (Math) 690 (Writing)
GPA UW is 3.0
GPA W is 3.35
I’m from a competitive high school and pretty involved in leadership and extracurriculars too.
Also I took 3 APs junior year, APUSH (5), AP Lang (4), and AP Macroeconomics (5).
Taking AP Gov, AP Lit, and AP Microeconomics this year.
Hopefully I’ll get some money.
Is there a place on this site that I can find a roommate for UMNTC?
@vvfor3 yes. In fact it’s smart to send mid year transcripts to all colleges that haven’t responded yet. In D2’s case three of her schools won’t be sending out decisions till late February or even March and they all require the 7th semester transcript.

I was actually surprised at this - I accidentally left my activity section blank on the application, and by the time I could e-mail them (the next day), they already accepted me…
